The Good Place 4x05 "Employee of the Bearimy" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
Eleanor’s role as The Architect is made abundantly clear in this episode when compared to Tahani’s constant need to help and mess it up. Jason and Michael go rescue Janet, and the episode restructures the lens to resemble more a high school reunion, which was an amazing way to look at it, and having Jason there helped balance the nonsense.
Eleanor was thinking on her feet this week, but not in her usual panicky way. Kristen Bell is really nailing the performances for this final season, showing us Eleanor’s growth as an Architect flawlessly. Pairing her with Tahani to bestow confidence onto her was touching in all the best ways.
The situation with Janet being gone, Derek unable to maintain the neighborhood, and Chidi staying behind from the study group retreat up at the lake house caused all kinds of problems for Eleanor. I did love the scenario with Chidi though because Eleanor used their connection to guide him away from the danger in a calming fashion that Tahani’s outrageous excuses would occasionally disrupt. A unicorn getting stabbed by someone was a nice treat.
Jason and Michael lying to everyone about disguising themselves as demons in meat suits was clever and confusing in all the right ways. Jason as Glenn as Jason, and then Michael as Vicky in a Michael Suit pretending to be Michael. That’s just good writing, sort-of.
Overall, the new humans feel more like a plot device than actual characters. I don’t think that’s a good thing because they’re the most important of the experiment. Hopefully, it’s one of those plot twist type situations where they get me scared, and then they do things to make it work. I’m still looking forward to the end of the series ,and learning how it will end. Seeing the real Good Place would be cool.
