Grey's Anatomy 16x04 "It's Raining Men" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
Meredith Grey’s desire to write a story backfired. Of course, it did. Grey-Sloan Memorial is suffering the fallout of Meredith’s story being taken out of context: she pitched ideas to a some media outlet (I didn’t listen for the specifics), and that media basically bullet-listed her ideas and shot the hospital with them. The hospital is under fire and losing patients / funding. All the fun things about wanting to maintain a polished reputation.
The whole scandal pushes Bailey over the edge. She is heated (literally to 100 degrees), frustrated, and feels betrayed by a long-time friend / colleague. Meredith Grey ditches work crew to go apologize and take care of this problem. This office scene had a large history lurking over them as Bailey’s hurt feelings are addressed in full despite Grey’s apology, making the whole scene hard to process. Hopefully, these two find a way to resolve their differences, but it’s difficult to imagine it right now.
Miranda Bailey also discovers that she’s experiencing perimenopause and pregnancy. She is having a child with Ben Warren. Maggie Pierce, of course, is the first to find out, and wonders if Bailey’s going to keep it a secret. Maggie has been through this secret- keeping too many times. Maggie Pierce needs better writing. For some reason, it’s not working.
Jackson Avery needs better writing too. They finally mentioned he had a daughter so we’d know the writers didn’t forget about that aspect of his character. Although, that Station 19 / Grey’s Anatomy romance has potential to be something.
Granted it’s only been four episodes, but Vic and Jackson work better as a couple than him and Maggie.
Amelia and Link are too cute. His speech about falling in love with her was a highlight of the episode. Link is the perfect human being… for Amelia. They’re going to be awesome parents.
Owen Hunt switched over to Pac-North as Head of Trauma. I didn’t expect Owen Hunt to jump ship next, but I like the reasoning. He needs a fresh start and to get away from Tom Koracick. He really hates that guy. But, Owen joining Webber and Karev has potential as all of them were Chief of Surgeries at Grey-Sloan.
Cristina’s text message was also a natural off-screen cameo. I loved it as I could read it in her voice. Teddy Altman needs more surgeon screentime because the motherhood and romance with Owen Hunt are the things she’s always wanted out of her story time, now it’s time for Teddy to rediscover “me time” surgeries.
Overall, Meredith Grey is a force to be reckon with and Andrew DeLuca might not be able to handle it.
