The Good Place 4x03 "Chillaxing" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
Now that the experiment is officially underway, the other members of the Soul Squad have to step-up: Jason and Tahani. Eleanor and Michael are a great team-up honestly, and seeing them do evil together is very satisfying. Jason is deployed as Jianyu to get Chidi anxious again, similar to the season twist when we learned Jianyu was Jason. It truly is awesome to see nostalgia get weaved into plot.
However, Eleanor is unable to handle Chidi’s selflessness as he chose to protect Jason and submit to her torment. She’s human, and that moment was too hard to swallow. I’m not a big fan of Chidi and Eleanor, but Kristen Bell does sell on those emotional moments. I am looking forward to the rest of the season when it comes to these two soulmates.
Tahani got actual screentime this episode with her arch-nemesis John, and tries to get him to self-improve with Chidi’s study group. However, no matter what tricks she pulls on him, John does not budge. After talking to Janet about Jason, Tahani has a heart-to-heart with John about what they did to each other during life, and John apologizes for what he did. This is a good first step forward.
Overall, this isn’t the most creative episode out there, but it shows the characters actually putting in the hard work to become better people. I’m prepared to find out how this final season will end.
