This Is Us 3x10 "The Last Seven Weeks" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
Wow. This Is Us is showing us the flaws of all the Pearson Siblings. Kate is getting really bad in my opinion, and Randall is looking not good either. Kevin Pearson is having trouble too, but the show gave him a story where he went through a lot of struggle, so his part of the episode ended up being my favorite. So, the episode breaks down the last seven weeks of the election, the strangest plot line they have ever had Randall on.
Randall is determined to win this election campaign at all costs and unintentionally begins to neglect his family as a result, being unable to focus on anything else. Jack Pearson and Teenage Randall are shown throughout the episode talking about his ‘future’ worries with his wife and kids. Bless any scene with Jack Pearson, the greatest dad ever.
I have mentioned this a few times in my previous reviews, but I did not enjoy the election story. However, the ending where he realized his mistake and made amends with Beth proved he was putting his family first. His last words of the episode, “I Won”… that means so much on so many levels beyond winning the election. I can’t believe he won the election. I had no faith in him… “the numbers weren’t there”, but the man pulled it off. Respect.
Let’s move on to the other siblings.
Kate, WHY? She is getting on my nerves. Wow. Kate hurt Toby and didn’t even consider how valuable his action figures were. Toby cared about her sentimental objects, but I guess she forgot about that. The writers have to rethink her character and the “fat” storylines they put her in. I felt some disrespect / confusion on her “fake” story to convince the nerd to give back the action figures. Whatever, hopefully, Kevin can help them get their shit together.
Kevin and Zoe are escalating. The show cleverly used the time jump to get them to a point of being in love with each other. I still think it’s too soon, but what do I know about love? Absolutely nothing. Yay Kevin and Zoe are figuring out how to be couple. The diner scene with her ex-boyfriend was ruthless. Zoe dumped that guy over email… she hit send and was done with him.
On the Nicky Pearson front, he is alive and Kevin is tracking him down. He finds out his father, Jack, knew Nicky was alive and had been sending him mail. Nicky signed them C.K. for Clark Kent, but at some point, they stopped communicating. Kevin can’t believe his father kept this secret from the family, but now they have a return address, planning to visit him!
Overall, it was an episode that fully exploited how flaw the Big Three are. They are not perfect adults, but they are not irredeemable. Kevin, Kate, and Randall are learning to be better… They got this.
