The 100 5x12 "Damocles - Part One" Review
Major spoilers are included in this episode review. Read with Caution.
Time flies when you're trying to rebuild the world! The first half of the season finale has loyalties tested everywhere - Kane and Diyoza to McCreary, Clarke to her friends, Madi to her people as the Commander, Bellamy to Octavia, and Octavia to Wonkru and her loved ones.
Also the war finally happens and its so solid! Wonkru falls into McCreary's trap (F-U Kane) and they are forced to fall back or die. Octavia and Bellamy stay down on the ground, watching as their people attempt to escape or surrender and suffer horrible deaths. The tension was real as only about half of their people made it back to the Wasteland, and Octavia and Bellamy were forced to rely on each other once again to survive.
On the other side of the war, Madi continues her righteous mission to help her people as the new Commander. Clarke, as a mother, refuses to let Madi do something so dangerous and chooses for the both of them to stay on the "winning side". It even gets to the point of Clarke using the shock collar to keep Madi under her control.
That is legit abuse... Clarke has gone farther than "too far" at this point in the series.
Her extreme protection over Madi even makes Clarke's reunion with Raven rather awkward and intense as she points a gun at her former friend, willing to shoot Raven and Echo for the sake of her daughter. But Madi, using Lexa's spirit and memories, manages to help Clarke see the truth of her actions.
Clarke helps her friends and Madi escape as she deals with McCreary with her mother.
Speaking of her mother, she is in the center of a blood feud between Kane and Vinson. Abby is free of her pills, but Vinson wishes for her to get back on the addiction. He is obsessed with Abby and wants her under these pills for some reason (crush perhaps?). Vinson attacks Kane in the hopes that his death will cause a relapse in Abby.
Abby manages to electro-shock Vinson to death, but Kane is close to death at that point. It is unclear whether or not he died in the moment, but if he did, those last words were rather strong ones to help relieve Abby of her gut-wrenching guilt during the "Dark Year". They are an underrated romance, especially this season, but I love them a lot.
Eventually, Octavia and Bellamy manage to meet with Gaia and Indra, who survived the attack. Indra is treating Gaia's fatal wound and refuses to leave her daughter's side. Inspired by Gaia's somewhat sacrifice (her death is also unclear), Octavia realizes she is responsible for Wonkru's downfall and decides to die gun a blazing to get her loved ones to safety.
I honestly believed she was a goner. I was ready to see her get blasted by bullets, but then the Rover comes to the rescue! Echo tells Octavia and the others to get inside, and they escape without anyone dying... except maybe Gaia.
Sound off in the comments. This Tuesday is the season finale! Who will live? Who will die? Who will have the Valley? More importantly, will John Murphy live to see another season?
