The 100 5x13 "Damocles - Part Two" Review
Major spoilers are included in this episode review. Read with Caution.
Apologies for the late post for the season finale. Last week was not my best week. But I did find the time to watch it, and surprisingly, I enjoyed a good amount of it. There were a lot of good character moments, intense scenes, and once again, the world ended. The 100's characters have no idea how to maintain Earth in the slightest.
Last week's cliffhanger was resolved near the end of the episode and shockingly, Kane survived. I thought he was finished off, but I guess the show isn't done putting him through hell yet. Regarding him, Abby, and Octavia, I feel like they really rushed to their resolutions. Octavia and Abby had a moment where they put the past behind them and decided to save Kane despite the odds against him.
Octavia and Madi was also rushed in my opinion. I don't think Octavia earned the peace she made with Madi and the way she stepped down didn't feel right either. I understand the plot needed Madi to ascend to Commander so Wonkru could defeat their enemies, but the show should've spent more time building up to it.
Raven and Shaw relationship was definitely rushed. The show is trying to shove them together and make them care about each other to such a romantic extent, but they're simply not there yet. McCreary treated them like they were a legit couple and tortured them to get either of them to cooperate. Although the emotions and chemistry are present, the progression of their "love" is not feasible.
Madi and her connection with the previous Commanders was a good touch though. No other Commander had demonstrated this ability, and having Gaia guide Madi was a good way to keep her relevant. The action plan she came up with was also ingenious.
I also liked the Bellamy-Madi moments. He convinced her not to kill McCreary's men after they surrendered and to break the cycle of violence and death that started with them. Then she revealed how Clarke radioed Bellamy everyday for five years, hoping she was reaching him. This put Bellamy on the path of forgiveness.
Bellamy and Clarke were on the fence for most of the finale after she left him for dead in the Pitts. While by the end of the season it may seem like all is forgiven, I think there is still going to be trust issues between them moving forward into season six. Especially in regard to their new "son".
Jordan Jasper Green!!
Monty and Harper had a son!! They died!! They grew old together! Monty got the peace he always wanted! This was the best part of the finale!! I cannot believe they killed them off this way, but it fit their characters so perfectly.
I am hoping for John Murphy to become an Uncle figure to the kid. Especially since Monty risked his life to save him from the missile killing the world. Murphy is truly invincible and possesses the strongest plot armor ever. I think Emori and him are back together too! Yay!
Damn. Diyoza's baby is like 200+ years old and she's not even born yet. Glad McCreary got killed though. He needed to go for good. I also liked the moment between Octavia and Diyoza, the people who initiated the war. They both admitted to mistakes and hope for better in the next life.
The END BOOK ONE part got me going crazy! Like wow! Five seasons of this show is only the first book of the series. I cannot wait to see what this show does next on this new planet with two suns giving it the radiation they need to survive on it.
Please do not let them mess up this world too.
