Grey's Anatomy 14x24 "All of Me" Episode Review
Unbelievable drama sweep through this episode. The Alex-Jo wedding occurred, a hospital crisis, and a surprising character return! I fell in love with all of it-- all of me. It was also the farewell episode for both Arizona and April. We're going to miss them grace our screens with their friendship and chemistry and love for this show and the other characters.
What will we do without them? I hate April, but I want her around to keep hating. Does that make sense? It shouldn't, but for me it does.
ENOUGH TEARS. Let's dive into this.
Weeping Spoilers are incoming! I've cried so much this week for like four shows.
April is in wedding mode! She recovered from that horrible life-threatening episode and is making sure this wedding goes off without a hitch. It is also mentioned that April has quit Grey-Sloan and is working to help homeless people at shelters. She wants to continue God's work and to have a life with Matthew.
Meredith has a heart to heart with her daughter about getting married again. Zola wants her mom to be happy on love candy and that it's okay to get filled up on it. I found this very sweet and an insult for how little Zola is used. USE ZOLA MORE! SHE'S ADORABLE!
Alex and Arizona have a farewell scene too. Those two have shared a special friendship and I'm going to miss them working together. Arizona has nothing left to teach Alex and seeing him get married shows her that. This is too beautiful! Don't leave!
Arizona is leaving the show right after this episode, specifically right after the wedding. Sophia and Arizona got a one-way flight to New York to meet up with the single Callie. That's right, Callie broke up with Penny and an off-screen rekindling may happen!
Jo rushes into the house. Arizona covers Alex's eyes (not supposed to see the bride on wedding day), but Jo doesn't care. She wants to share the news about her fellowship to Mass Gen, a great opportunity for her career. Everyone is thrilled except Meredith.
Meredith does not want her only OG friend to leave. None of us do. She tries to give the Cristina speech about him being the sun, but she folds realizing how sunny Jo is. I loved how one of the best quotes in the series is poorly utilized here. Recycling this advice doesn't work, so Meredith comes up with a job offer instead: WHAT A TERRIBLE IDEA!
The Grey-Sloan staff and Station 19 rookie who took the day off for the ceremony: Miranda, Ben, Richard, Jackson, Maggie, DeLuca and the interns, etc. Well, they all end up at the wrong wedding because GPS sucks.
An incredible awkward situation that forces them to slip out one by one. Great job Glasses on falling halfway there. Before Miranda and Ben can slip out though, the mother of the bride collapses. The two of them rush to her aid and get her to the hospital.
In other parts, Amelia and Owen are playing house. I don't understand them as a couple anymore, but either does Betty, who is confused about their situation. Betty is 30 days sober. That's a big accomplishment, but her parents don't show up for the celebration. This is put on the backburner when Owen starts considering his relationship with Amelia.
After Meredith offers the attending job to Jo, she wonders if Alex orchestrated this. She rushes to find him and again, Arizona fails to keep them apart. The expression on Alex's face the entire time was so priceless. He is in awe of his future bride. That is the face of true love.
Alex promises Jo he didn't force Meredith to give her a job offer. He is supportive of her dreams no matter where it takes them. This prompts them to go off together to some shed for some lovemaking. When she sees him kick down the door, it is on!
Miranda Bailey is rushing to get help for the mother of the bride. Without Maggie Pierce, she has no idea how to get a cardiac consult. Cue the music for the timely arrival of Teddy Altman, who recognizes no one roaming the halls. She wasn't invited to the wedding, but her reason for arrival doesn't matter to Miranda: it's a blessing in disguise!
Did anyone else know she was going to show up in the finale? I had no idea and cried out in joy to see her again. My favorite blonde Grey's surgeon! This is quite the surprise!
Teddy is looking for a job back in Grey-Sloan. She knows it's ridiculous to ask Bailey for one because she has a Head of Cardio, but Bailey tells her she is the last sign she needed for a lifestyle change. The stress of being chief is getting to her and she wants to stay alive long enough to see her own son get married.
She doesn't want to end up like the mother of the bride, collapsing on the wedding day. Bailey offers Teddy the job of interim chief while she is on sabbatical. Teddy simply says to keep talking, implying that they will go into details on what this means going forward!
YES TEDDY ALTMAN IS BACK! WE LOST TWO BUT GOT ONE BACK! WOOOOOAHHH!!
Let's get back to the wedding of the year. Everyone found the right place but the chaos isn't over. Jackson and Matthew come face-to-face. They haven't interacted since... well since the last wedding they attended together. The one Jackson ruined by declaring his love for April.
Matthew and Jackson are in the process of making amends for the children's sake. Matthew wants to punch Jackson but settles for hearing he lost a quarter of a billion dollars. This is an incredibly mature conversation for the two men to have.
Chaos continues!
Jo and Alex are trapped inside their lovemaking shed... with a dead body! OMG regular people would've freaked out, but they found the humor in the situation. Well, Jo finds the humor, and Alex is in awe again because she is choosing to marry him. I love them so much. Alex deserves this happy ending more than anything.
Meredith and Richard have a conversation too. He lectures her on how giving Jo an attending job is a terrible idea, and that the fellowship is one of the best in the country. She can't derail Jo's career for her own selfish reasons.
Amelia and Meredith have a chat too. She mistakenly assumes Meredith is falling in love with Alex and is secretly trying to sabotage things. Amelia is way-off because Meredith isn't allowed to have feelings for Alex. It would ruin the show and ignite fury in a lot of fans who are committed to their 14-year-old friendship.
But we learn Amelia is projecting because she is falling for Owen again. The Meredith-Amelia dynamic kills me sometimes. She'd rather have her Alex than Amelia to occupy her loneliness.
April figures out the wedding duo is missing. Arizona and Meredith go searching for them, figuring out they are together at least and having sex based on the change of shoes.
The wedding planner makes a drunk DeLuca give a speech about his history with the couple. This is a bad but entertaining idea. He talks about how he used to like the bride, how the groom beat the crap out of him, and his lost love for Sam.
He needs some happiness in season 15. You've done plenty to him.
Afterwards, the wedding planner has an allergic reaction, and all the doctor guests rush to save her life. This is officially the worst wedding ever. April cut her throat open using a knife, vodka for sanitation, and a pinwheel to open her airway.
Meredith is off to DeLuca to help him through his sadness about Sam. He mistakes this for seduction and kisses her. I found this oddly satisfying. I have said this numerous times: Andrew DeLuca is physically Derek Shepherd and Mark Sloan if they had a love child. Like huh? I wouldn't mind if they got together.
She rejects him but finds it flattering. They hear Alex and Jo screaming for help in the shed. DeLuca kicks the door down and get the couple out of there. They mention the dead body but it's nothing to get too concerned about.
Everyone gets on the ferry boat because the wedding fell apart. Meredith apologizes to Jo for offering the job but admits she didn't completely lie: she enjoyed working with Jo Wilson. These two have come a long way in five years. Alex has enough room in his life for both women, he promises them both separately.
Meredith gets ordained online and officiates the dream wedding for Alex and Jo.
Back at the wedding, April is broken over how everything fell apart. She cared more than Alex and Jo about their own wedding. I'm going to miss her strange ways after this episode. Matthew comforts her with A PROPOSAL. Jackson and Arizona witness this and become the witnesses for the ceremony.
STAND DOWN JACKSON AVERY! IF MARK SLOAN TELLS YOU TO GO FOR IT AGAIN, YOU GOTTA NOT LISTEN!
There is another wedding at Grey-Sloan too! The Mother of the bride encourages her daughter to marry her love anyway and bears witness in the hospital bed. Teddy is showing her the ceremony using an iPad and the ceremony takes place in the hospital chapel.
While all three weddings happen, Sara Ramirez graces our screens with her beautiful voice. They use the song "The Story" from the musical episode for the closing number. That is perfect and it sets the tone perfectly for how no one died in this finale.
This gets Teddy teared up and she rubs her stomach. Excuse me? The mother asks if Teddy is expecting, and tearfully, Teddy answers, "Yes I am."
OMG Teddy is pregnant with Owen's child! Forget Amelia and Owen. I need Teddy-Owen drama/friendship/romance. Season 15 is all about them and their baby and his future for a family.
Season 14 concludes on a high note. A great comeback from the dreadful Season 13. We'll miss you Arizona Robbins and April Kepner. Welcome back, Teddy Altman! Emotions ran high as we are faced with change and departures and unexpected returns.
Comment and share how this episode touched us in the right ways. I'm crying.
Station 19 season 1 finale review is coming. So look out for that one too.
