The Flash 4x22 "Think Fast" Review
We're here. The Enlightenment is upon us. I don't know why The Flash keeps messing up here, but this episode had a strong start with an action scene involving DeVoe, but afterwards, the entire episode felt clunky and rough. This is not a good way to head into the season finale.
An Arrow character made a cameo in this episode, but his presence was also short-lived. I expected the show to do more with his appearance but failed to do so. It was disappointing and had no real effect on the episode itself.
Spoilers ahead.
Let's get into the DeVoe fight scene.
He disguised himself as John Diggle (our cameo) and infiltrated ARGUS to get to Fallout, the bus-meta Team Flash and Leo Snart saved back in "Fury Rogue". He displayed such finesse taking out the ARGUS agents and how he used all the bus-meta powers to their fullest extent, including the luck-based one.
His gravity power usage reminded me a lot of Damien Darhk during his stint on both Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow, bringing his villainy to its highest capacity.
Unfortunately this is the only part of the episode I liked. Everything else had a lot of things going wrong but had a nice Killer Frost reveal.
Let's start with the wrong: Harry Wells and Iris West-Allen. Pairing them up together did not have the same feel as Harry and Cecile, but what can we do? I'm not sure if we're supposed to laugh or get worried about Harry's condition, but they're playing it off humorously.
Yes! Let's laugh at how everyone else could potentially end up like Harry if DeVoe pulls off the Enlightenment? I'm not sure I follow this approach. Iris is going through her own issues too involving the blog that does not have a payoff in the slightest.
My blog will get the citizens to help find DeVoe. WAIT! Never mind we figured it out: found her using the love formula. But thanks for the help anyway, keep subscribing to my blog! It's so forgettable that Harry had forgotten he proofread it that morning.
It tells a lot that Iris had a dumb-down Harry Wells proofread her paper. Is she that desperate for help on her writing? They need to figure out how to fit Iris' investigative skills into the team's dynamic by next season. This is embarrassing.
We'll see how Iris will convince Marlize to help them defeat DeVoe. They found her in England because love is the solution.
Caitlin went to the therapist. At this point, they should hire her full-time for Team Flash. For some reason, she is the one they go to for all their problems. She even gives them a discount for all the business they bring her every other week. I'm surprised she hasn't figured out that Barry is the Flash yet.
After a training session went wrong in Flashtime, Caitlin starts to remember a suppressed memory but shrugs it off. Then she has Cisco vibe it and it's a dark one. It reveals shocking information about Killer Frost: she has been a part of Caitlin since childhood. Her father knew about it, and her mother may have knew about it.
Does her brother Charlie exist on this Earth? That would be a cool thing to explore next season for Caitlin and Killer Frost. We don't know much about Caitlin's family and childhood. Can we talk about how she nonchalantly talked about Ronnie dying twice on her to the therapist? Because that felt wrong to me for some reason.
Cecile and Joe's baby drama is brought up in the episode. They're too busy with that to help Team Flash with the Enlightenment. She started to take on everyone's personalities, which acted like attempted humor filler that we didn't need.
I praised her character in previous reviews, but her story in this episode wasn't working. I had hoped her water would break at some point, and she'd give birth to a telepathic baby who'd save everyone from the Enlightenment. That might be stretching it, but c'mon!
John Diggle (the actual character) appeared and his gagging whenever he is super sped is always welcomed on this show. I wished he stayed around, but he has to help Oliver defeat Ricardo Diaz in the season finale this Thursday.
Speaking of that season's flaw, this episode addressed the same concept. Barry wants to take on DeVoe alone and sidelines Caitlin and Cisco. Except his besties insist Barry keep training them in Flashtime. There is no other way to stop DeVoe. Cisco is giving it to Barry on this, and it sticks!
Oh yeah. Barry failed to stop the Enlightenment even with his friends' help. DeVoe pulled it off and we'll see how that will play out in the season finale. I'm really praying they create a miracle and give us an effective season four finale.
Let's put DeVoe behind us and deal with the Mystery Girl Speedster. I'm ready to learn about her and how she will factor into season five. I'm over season four.
Better than "Harry and the Harrisons", but not by much.
