Novel Writing Update #2
Hey there! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
No TV reviews today. Keep a look out tomorrow though for the season finale review I will write for DC's Legends of Tomorrow. Best Arrowverse show this year, nobody can change my mind about that glorious fact... but more on that later.
Let's get to the real reason you clicked on this post.
I decided to update you readers on my writing progress-- I plan to do this at least once every two weeks to a month to see if my issues with writing can help some of you with your own writing problems. Or we can complain together about the cruelty of reaching word count... I'd be fine with that too.
The past two weeks have been difficult in the writing department. I experienced Writer's Block and had to deal with a lot of pain. Getting one of my wisdom teeth removed made it more difficult to get the writing done... it still stings!
After going nowhere with the latest chapter, barely able to write 100 words for the intro, I struggled to figure out the next move for my protagonists and which direction to take the story. I was stuck in the beginning of the chapter for so long, I was certain I'd never find my way out of there. My mind would shut down every time I tried and a headache developed the minute my eyes glanced the computer screen.
Thinking the computer screen or my dirty desk space were the issues for my lack of writing, I wrote out different ideas on separate pieces of papers. This was a short-lived method, as the notes are now cluttering my former desk area. But I finally managed to add 2000+ words to the chapter this past weekend.
I rolled with the strike of inspiration surging through my active thoughts and put down every word I came up with despite how ridiculous it sounded being read back. It felt great writing from 11:00 pm to 2:00 am on a Saturday night. I got a lot of writing done and all it cost was my sleep. Yay for being tired but reaching word count!
Writer's Block is what prevented the writing from happening lately. I hate being blocked on ideas and having no clue what to write next. It's incredibly stressful and hurts my head too much. I know I need to write words right now, but I can't seem to find my will to do so.
A lot was on my mind these past two weeks involving the real world as well and it drained my energy. It happens to writers more often than not.
What keeps me going despite the obstacles though?
Being able to see how everything turns out, my commitment to the story, and believing in the narrative blaring through my head every night. I can visualize the general outline of the journey from start to finish. I hope I can get there, my original draft #2 ending I betrayed. I'm coming back for you! I'll write it down for the whole world to read someday!
These amazing characters I created, the development I put them through, and the miserable they have to endure... it's all for one purpose. To tell a wonderful story for my audience.
This weekend, I pushed for the impossible! I kept my butt glued to my seat and forced my fingers to type out the words embedded deep inside my subconscious.
It took a lot of mental strength, but I got the job got done. As a reward for my writing efforts, I plan to sleep early tonight and to recharge for tomorrow. Taking effective breaks help a lot too for fighting Writer's Block. Plus Mondays are the most challenging days of the week. They are unbeatable... no matter how much coffee you drink. I have to prepare. We all do.
That's the latest update on my writing progress. Filled with pain, anger, a sense of accomplishment, and a hint of joy somewhere in the writing. I'm sure the joy exists ... laughing at my misery.

Catch you all later!
