The Originals 5x01 "Where You Left Your Heart" Episode Review
Yes! Rejoice because The Originals came back to the CW last night and brought with them a ton of blood! LIKE A LOT OF BLOOD! I've been an avid fan of both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals since the beginning... and watching it all end hurts my soul more than anyone will ever know. I don't know how I will survive without it... So here is my review. Spoilers Ahead:
Klaus Mikaelson opens the episode killing some poor guy who never heard of him. Wow! The man has been busy in Europe massacring all their enemies for the past seven years. He's mostly there because amnesic Elijah lives there playing piano for a living. Klaus misses his brother and can't seem to stay away despite the risks involved. This is where the pools of blood come in... whenever two pieces of The Hollow are close to each other, Bad Things happen like wilting flowers and water changing into blood.
Elijah plays a minor role in this episode. He is mostly there to remind everyone he has no idea who he is. Klaus hates their situation... declaring it worse than Elijah being dead. I can definitely understand his sorrow and pain. Talking to someone you love and care for, but the other person not recognizing you must not be an easy thing to do.
He stopped calling Hope too after five years. I'm glad they addressed this because while The Hollow does keep them physically separated, things like Skype and phone calling still exist... which are both utilized so the Mikaelson siblings can speak to each other and Hope if they chose to do so.
It took Caroline Forbes' return to knock some sense into The Original Hybrid. I screamed in blissful joy because while The Vampire Diaries ended, it was wonderful to see Caroline around living in her happily ever after. Rebekah called her for assistance once they discovered Klaus' murder spree became too horrible and spread to the point anyone could hear about it, giving Hope the wrong impression of her father.
Klaus defends his killing spree, claiming Elijah is defenseless against their enemies. But Caroline is not having it... how I missed her real talks with Klaus so much. TVD feelings flooded that room especially when Caroline made him clean up his mess. That is such a Caroline thing to do.. you made the mess so you clean it up. When talking about Hope, they also finished each other sentences. WHY ARE THEY NOT TOGETHER YET?
When Klaus tells her about him being a bad father because of his past yet again, Caroline straightens him out... "stop using Mikael as an excuse for being a bad father!" The expression on his face was priceless!
Caroline even brings up her own father issues to reason with the man. She even tells him, "I happen to think you're someone worth knowing." THE BEST LINE OF THE EPISODE!
Leaving him with that to think about, they part ways for the time being, Caroline telling him she'll see him at the next parent-teacher conference. Can we get a scene where this actually happens?!
Let's talk about another ship that finally set sail at the end of season four: Rebekah and Marcel. I love them together and cried for their happy ending. But since the show continued and Claire Holt is not regular, they had to break up again. Darn it!
After seven years together in New York, Marcel finally proposed to the "love of his lives" using four objects: a wedding dress, their dream house design, her sword, and the ring. The beautiful ring she rejected despite how romantic the proposal was! This made me furious she ended up saying no because of her family's situation with The Hollow. I would've happily married Marcel if he pulled a stunt like that on me! Seriously Rebekah Mikaelson!
In the end, Rebekah broke up with him and ran off to Europe to speak to Elijah because screw the rule about never seeing the siblings again. They really can't resist each other. Marcel, who waited forever at city hall, calls Josh and tells him he's coming back to New Orleans because he has nothing left in New York.
So that's what's been going on with The Original Trio... Wow a lot happened in this season premiere. I'm surprised this all got crammed into one episode and it flowed pretty okay. Anyways, onto MYSTIC FALLS!
Hope Mikaelson, now 15 years old? Correct me if I'm wrong, is attending the Salvatore Boarding School and has recently entered her rebellious streak. She is selling her blood to a werewolf student named Henry so he could turn into a hybrid. This does not go well when Henry jumps out a window and kills himself to transition. Mr. Alaric Saltzman, off-screen, suspends Hope for selling her blood and turning a werewolf student into a hybrid.
You know... Typical high school drama.
Hayley is furious with Hope for doing such an act! Turning werewolves into hybrids, especially Crescent wolves, is not something she should do lightly. But Hope pulls the "my body my choice" card on her mother. What happened to the sweet little girl she was before? This Hope is outright mean! This results in Hope confiding in her Uncle Kol via FaceTime about the latest problem.
I have to talk about this for a second. I cannot believe Hope and Kol became close to the point where she regularly speaks to him. This is too cute! Last season Hope and Kol were practically strangers, but now they have an actual familial relationship. This is awesome!
But what she did to Henry intensified the fear in vampires. For most of the show and their parent show, vampires have always feared hybrids. They do not like them having access to fatal werewolf bites and having the power to kill them off easily. Something that happens when Henry kills a nice vampire girl when he lost control bumping into her. Okay? She was incredibly nice too!
Josh and his vampires are rightfully furious over their friend's death and demand Henry die for what he did. I think that's fair. But Hayley and Henry's mother figure try to reason with them, but they are not okay with that hybrid killing one of them for no reason. They eventually back down but make it clear this is far from over.
After dealing with this, Hayley goes to meet her human boyfriend for a date, but gets knocked out by something and disappears, leaving only her phone behind as evidence. Calling it right now: Hayley will die before the series ends. If anyone is going, it's her.
Freya is torn between her family and Keelin. She is still seeking for a method to reunite her family and Keelin is tired of waiting on her. Freya decides to join her love in Lebanon and tells Vincent she is leaving New Orleans. At first, he wants her to stay because the peace in the city is on edge, but he ultimately relents and gives his blessing.
She thankfully hugs him. I always knew those two had a weird friendship, but I'm happy they grew close to the point they can hug each other. Because last season, he could barely look her in the eye for what she did to Davina. Here's hoping we see more of that friendship because Freya's not going anywhere once she learns what happened to Hayley.
Hope finds her mother's phone and sees who's calling: her daddy! She answers the phone and tells her father that Hayley is missing. He is speechless hearing his daughter's voice and decides to return to help his family.
The episode ends with Vincent sitting in the cemetery when blood falls out of the sky like rain. I told you there was a lot of blood in this episode. It was crazy amounts of blood.
The final season premiere was solid. They threw a lot at us, but most of it stuck quite nicely and the pacing worked out. Nothing felt rushed or dragged... I like Teenage Hope better than child Hope. The ending of Always and Forever is approaching, but the journey will be well-deserved.
Comment and share your feelings about this amazing show ending or how you felt about the latest episode. Talking about this show is the best thing ever. I love vampires.
