Legacies 1x07 "Death Keeps Knocking On My Door" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
Josie and Lizzie Saltzman were notably absent in this episode. After delivering such emotional performances—especially Josie, I guess it was everyone else’s turn with The Necromancer’s mind games. The theme of the episode was death and finding peace. A common one this show shares with its predecessors, The Vampire Diaries and The Originals.
The episode centered on Rafael’s past with his dead girlfriend and Hope’s inability to get past her father’s death. Alaric is present for his students as their headmaster / father-figure. The subplot of the episode centered on MG, Kaleb, and surprisingly Dorian. I appreciated Kaleb’s desire to help his vampire friend, but he learned firsthand what it meant for someone like MG to feed on human blood.
Dorian is furious with them for their vampire behavior and reveals why he only takes this day off out of the whole year. He wants to mourn his family but can’t do that at work—where the killer used to live. On top of that, the library is named after Stefan Salvatore. I’m glad the writers didn’t forget how close Dorian was to killing the vampire-turned-human hero back in the final season of TVD.
Kaleb is getting humanized. He looked displeased to find MG not following Damon’s “snatch, feed, and release” plan. This might change the dynamic in their friendship and MG may be addicted to human blood now… Another Ripper is born.
The Necromancer revived Rafael’s girlfriend, Cassie. She is relieved to see Rafael until her memories of the accident return. Turns out it wasn’t accident or weather-related. Rafael lost control of his temper and turned too fast on the road… he was jealous of a guy flirting with her.
He eventually takes responsibility and she forgives him. Afterwards, she is turned into a puppet for The Necromancer’s plan.
Hope enlisted MG’s help to enter The Necromancer’s mind. She manages to get inside so she can figure out why he and every other monster is after The Knife. I’m capitalizing it now since we know it’s one of three keys to Malivore. The other two keys will be essential in the second half of the season.
The Necromancer is an entertaining monster with a distinct personality and a giant ego. His tendency to overstate simple things was mentioned by Hope. His twisted mind games with Hope by taking her to familiar locations in New Orleans and taunting her with Klaus’ fate.
No. Klaus Mikaelson did not appear in the episode, but we learn what became of him after his death in The Originals’ series finale. He is watching over his daughter every day but cannot find peace until she does. This prompts her to write him a letter saying how she disappointed him but promises he won’t have to watch her everyday once she finds her peace. I hate that Klaus failed to find peace and is lingering around.
The cliffhanger involves Landon Kirby. He is calling out to Hope for help and a mystery person is hunting him… this person also has the same photo Landon has with him (as a baby) and his mother. This should lead us to what Landon is and the connection he has with The Knife and Malivore.
Note: I love that The Necromancer enlisted a dead Bennett Witch to help him. We need Bonnie to come back.
