The Good Place 3x07 "A Fractured Inheritance" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please Read With Caution.
This episode excelled all expectations. Eleanor and Michael killed it! Everyone else was shipped off to Budapest to make amends with Tahani’s sister, Kamilah. The dynamics of family and how it affects the next generations rang clear, especially when it came to Eleanor and her mother.
Eleanor and Michael track down her “dead” mother to find her living the normal life with a good man and his daughter. Eleanor is more upset that her deadbeat mother Donna took her stolen identity for herself, Diana Tremaine, and how she’s literally fooling everyone. Michael has great banter with Dave as they are both architects. We need more scenes with them ASAP!
“We ‘lived’ in the same ‘neighborhood’”. - Michael
“What an interesting way to say a normal thing.”
I rest my case.
Eleanor is convinced that her mother is scamming the poor guy and his daughter, but it turns out this isn’t the case. Michael questions why she can’t believe her mother might’ve change, and Eleanor declares her truth!
She wanted that mother! She wanted the loving, nurturing mother that’s standing in front of the whole PTA board. Pure emotion can kill us all. It leaves Michael speechless and unable to provide real advice as the “self-appointed father figure”. This leads to Eleanor and Donna to have a real heart-to-heart about committing to the family she has in Nevada. I think Eleanor is growing and staying real with all the damage her mother inflicted on her soul growing up.
This forces Michael to tell Eleanor about her love with Chidi that manifested in one of the reboots. They loved each other without hesitation, which is a rare thing especially for these two individuals. Although, this only occurred once out of I forgot how many reboots.
Everyone else went to Budapest.
Jason and Janet bond over the paintings. Tahani and Chidi try to talk to Kamilah, but the sisters end up fighting after exchanging a couple of words. Then Tahani realizes the issue isn’t with either of them… ITS THEIR PARENTS! The Boobies Painting represent their parents and how they divided the sisters. Yeah, once Jason said it, I couldn’t unsee it either, Chidi.
When Tahani wrapped her arms over Kamilah, the sisters made somewhat amends. Kamilah even gave Tahani credit for the painting called “Fractured Inheritance”, which Tahani thinks is dumb. She thinks the title, “Buried Hatchet” would’ve fit better. Classic Tahani!
I think the Soul Squad is making progress with their loved ones. This episode was probably one of the best this season. Although, “Donkey Doug” will always have a special place in my best episodes list. Jason is honestly such an exceptional character.
