The Flash 5x07 "O Come, All Ye Thankful" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please Read with Caution.
I’m back on track y’all! Thanksgiving last week threw me off my regular blog schedule, but I’m essentially all caught up on it and ready to deliver the newest episode review of The Flash. The father-daughter theme ran strong in this episode: Barry and Nora, Weather Wizard and Witch, and then Cicada and his daughter Grace. The family theme works in this episode and far superior compared to Arrow season six.
Weather Witch is the meta of the week. She wants to kill her father for destroying their family and uses a machine powered by “meta-tech” to control the weather. She is dead-set on her goal and threatens to blow up Central City if she doesn’t get her dad.
After a nearly fatal encounter involving Barry and Weather Witch, Nora goes into a mood. Iris assumed this would drive a wedge between them again, but this time, Iris is not the target of her unhappiness. Nora is upset about Barry “dying” and wishes he’d quit being The Flash so she doesn’t have to lose him in 2024.
This is an emotional confrontation that shows how much Nora misses her dad, the anger she has over it, and the influence he has on her in the present and in the future. In the end, Nora understands what it means for her dad to save people and to protect his family. I do wonder if this season will cover the 2024 Crisis or address how they’ll stop Barry from disappearing.
Killer Frost is back and snaps Sherloque and Cisco out of their Thanksgiving moods. She has been missed and the new hair color is amazing. This little subplot was really cute and a good reminder on what Thanksgiving was built on.
The Cicada flashbacks were tragic. Orlin was granted Guardianship over Grace, the coma girl, after his sister and her husband died in a meta attack. He does not get off to a great start with her and even tries to get rid of her, but eventually, Orlin decides to become a better man for her sake. By the time the two of them became truly father-daughter, the Enlightenment struck down and put them on the current path.
Orlin became Cicada and Grace was put in her coma. I feel so much sympathy for him, but he is corrupted and must be stopped. What a tragic character.
Barry and the team have identified him by episode’s end… but the 100th episode is next week!! That means less Cicada and more speedsters!
Overall, a good Thanksgiving episode with a lot of emotional punches. A lot better constructed compared to last week’s Icicle episode.
