The Good Place 3x05 "Jeremy Bearimy" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please Read with Caution.
This episode threw our protagonists for a loop. Michael asks Janet for their next move… like yeah the four humans have seen the magic door and recognize Michael from their interactions. This is horrible… what is the next move?
They try to pose as FBI Agents, but that quickly fails. Michael suggests they kill them, grab them before they get shipped off to The Bad Place, but of course, there’s no way to do it effectively. Although, I got my chuckles when he described our bodies as fragile.
When the four humans (Eleanor, Chidi, Jason, and Tahani) are filled in with all the knowledge of the afterlife and their one-way trip to Hell, things escalate. Then Chidi (and the rest of us) gets broken when Michael explains how timelines work.
Instead of a straight line like on Earth, the timeline in the afterlife goes in loops that resemble the name, “Jeremy Bearimy”, the title of the episode. The dot above the “i” represents nothing, Tuesdays, and July all in one. I hope this concept comes back to save them, or it could be a funny thing… lols for lols.
Eleanor goes back to her old ways after learning the truth. She pretends it’s her birthday for free drinks, but then she ends up helping someone. Crazy, right? Then she gets called a good person for her deed. Once again, we have stepped into the message I learned from Angel, do good things because it’s the right thing to do, NOT FOR A REWARD!
Chidi has a hot body. Damn dude! You got a “jacked up” thing going on. This is referenced earlier by Eleanor in a previous season, but seeing is believing. He went shirtless and gave up on life after learning the truth. He is a messed-up person who believes in nothing but then learns that he can help others rather effectively.
Tahani and Jason work together to give away her fortune. This is fantastic and then they got married… so Jason can own half of her money. Poor what’s his face Hemsworth. He was not informed of this situation and completely forgettable. I think he needs help.
Michael really wants to kill them… I honestly love that suggestion. It’s keen advice.
The Group has a new goal: help others get into The Good Place even if they can’t get in themselves. Once again, do things because it is right, not for a reward.
Thank you, vampire with a soul, for teaching me that at 6am every morning before I went to school like so many years ago. Seriously, that message stuck with me, and I’m seeing it like all the time since Season 3 started. Let’s see if this development sticks in future episodes.
