Season 4 Episode 8 was a transitional session. With Menos, Kai-Ku, and Gundam returning to the main narrative, the players entered a hyperbolic time chamber to train and figure out what they wanted to improve and change about their characters. We mostly spent the hours exploring how they can power-up to combat Lord Eggza, Cybertron, and Gilgamesh. They were preparing to become Gods.
Menos returned to the narrative—having been off on a 400-year quest looking for that power-up connection to the Chaos Emperor Dragon—and took his rightful place as Hero Captain #2. The Data Version of him shown earlier in the campaign is going to be used as his “stand-in” when he’s ready to quest off with Kai-Ku and Gundam.
Gundam was working with Data Menos the whole time. Other characters—WIFI and Killion—are off on a side-quest with XerX, setting up a potential one-shot with their other characters later on. Now, Gilgamesh and Lord Eggza are after him—using him as a competition between them.
There were also some plot developments in this session—table setting for what’s to come. Lord Eggza wants to reclaim his title as Hero Captain-Commander from Nero—the current one—through an election or a fight to the death. Lord Eggza wanted to resolve this immediately, but Wolfram Hart is forcing him to train for three months—similar to Frieza during DBS—with James Blondie as a sparring partner.
Lord Eggza was always so naturally powerful so he didn’t have to train a day in his life, but now he’s being forced to train in order to avoid dying again. Also, Nero’s strength is God-tier and should not be underestimated. The same can be said about Menos, Kai-Ku, and Gundam—who are going to power-up and become Gods.
Menos, Kai-Ku, Gundam, Mas O, Eri, and Roshi Nighthill all entered the Hyperbolic Time Chamber—to train for one year using one day logic—to get a head start on Lord Eggza and Gilgamesh—who’s involved because his massive ego is threatened by Lord Eggza’s return despite them both working for Dragon Queen Tiamat. The players are going to use every advantage they can get.
Menos trained with the Black Luster Solider—the being he had been searching for—to acquire the Chaos Emperor power within his Vanishing Blade. He also wanted to unlock the Dragon form he used against Lord Eggza during the climax of the previous campaign—a power he would definitely need again if he were going to fight against him. Proving himself worthy with a NAT 20—briefly unlocking that Dragon form—Menos acquired the Vanishing Blade. Now, he needed to train and unlock more power with it.
Mas O also revealed he had been infused with Ninth Hell Fire during his time imprisoned and has access to a God-level transformation—something he refused to use due to the trauma, but now he sees as being necessary for the upcoming God-tier battles ahead of them. Mas O and Menos are training to learn combo moves as well—having gone from enemies to frenemies to full-on brotherly allies since we started playing D&D.
Roshi Nighthill was training with Kai-Ku and Gundam—his classmates now ally for the upcoming war against Lord Eggza, Gilgamesh, and other God-tier opponents. Kai-Ku and Roshi had a sparring match—similar to their fights during season 1 of this campaign—showing the vast difference between their power levels. Roshi vowed to get stronger, following the advice of “100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, and 100 km runs” every day. I think y’all know where this is going—Roshi is becoming One Punch Man.
Gundam was improving his suits—similar to War Machine from Iron Man and other anime machinery type stuff—and learning to access the other Gundams inside his programming for higher power-ups. Kai-Ku is working on the Spirit Wave Technique he acquired from Gen Kai during season 2 and turning it into an Ultra Instinct-type power, which is pretty impressive. Learning what Kai-Ku had been up to since his disappearance during season 2 was pretty interesting.
So, this latest session was all about figuring out what to do with their characters moving forward. The next session will see “a year pass” in the time chamber, but only a day out in the real world. The players will be more than ready to tackle the “Quest for the Dragon Eggs Arc”—something I had been preparing them for the last nine months. It is a glorious payoff. I can’t wait to see how it all ends.
Thanks for reading this session recap, everyone! The adventure is truly becoming epic with a clear endgame. I’m excited to see how this campaign will truly end—but first how this season 4 will end. I’ll see y’all later in the next D&D episode!
