This session was shorter than usual, but we’re officially on board the Wave Rider, a spaceship able to travel throughout the multiverse. K-Krew and Cent Kelsier have finished doing drugs in the main living room, using this time to get to know each other better. Cent had a hard time remembering things like K-Krew’s names, but other than that, everybody was getting along.
The rest of the former students—like Roshi Nighthill and Spook—have been finding rooms and getting themselves comfortable on the Wave Rider. Killion went to a random bedroom for a long rest, needing to heal after the events of the previous session.
Gundam and Kai-Ku explored the Wave Rider for bedrooms too. Kai-Ku picked the one with a nice view of the Temporal Zone—hidden cracks or passageways in the multiverse. Gundam chose to make the Space Lab his bedroom, where Baxter was working on the Wave Rider’s software. She was also working on Gundam’s Battlizer and Kai-Ku’s robot leg, discovering an active tracking chip inside. Then the Dai Li—in small grey spaceships—attacked the Wave Rider. K-Krew made the conclusion that Doctor Sylar—a criminal—and the Dai Li Police Force were working together.
Killion rolled a NAT 1 waking up to the turbulence, screaming cowardly in front of Roshi Nighthill. Krypto—as the new A.I. of the Wave Rider—recorded the whole thing via security cameras. The NAT 1 was not nice to Killion in this session. Anyway, back to the enemies attacking the ship.
Gundam took control of the Wave Rider’s weaponry and fired laser beams, taking out the Dai Li ships with accuracy. They watched the news afterward, which revealed that the Dai Li were officially hunting K-Krew for the “crimes” they committed at HERO Academy in addition to Cent Kelsier, who had a criminal record of his own.
Cent revealed the Dai Li will do whatever it takes to stop K-Krew from taking the HERO License Exam. Getting their HERO licenses will essentially wipe the slate clean for them, something Gilgamesh doesn’t want to happen. The Dai Li would likely also be stationed somewhere at The Vanishing Point, a place outside of space and time and also the site of the HERO License Exam. K-Krew realized getting to The Vanishing Point was going to be a challenge.
At this point, the Wave Rider was running out of fuel. K-Krew and Cent decided to stop at Fuki City, a random city in the multiverse. While Cent was getting fuel, Kai-Ku and Gundam were out exploring this city. They ran into an old man working a Game Shop and decided to look around. The old man was discriminating against Kai-Ku for being a cripple. Kai-Ku had taken off his robot leg for Baxter to fix, so he was on his crutches again. The old man ended up calling 911—the Dai Li—on Kai-Ku. This led to Kai-Ku almost getting captured, but he managed to escape with Gundam’s help.
They needed to bail out of Fuki City.
However, when they arrived at Kaiba Corp’s Gas Station, the Dai Li were swarming the place. There were at least 25 of them were roaming and guarding checkpoints. Since Gundam didn’t look like his school ID anymore, he slid without anyone noticing. Kai-Ku, on the other hand, had to fight 25 Dai Li agents on his own. He was doing fine at first, but then the sheer numbers overwhelmed him. Kai-Ku was arrested and taken to their bigger spaceship. Gundam successfully followed and hid himself in the luggage section.
Killion helped Cent navigate and follow using the Wave Rider and the tracking chip inside Gundam. By the way, Gundam put the tracking chip from Kai-Ku on him to study and analyze it. Now, the tracking chip was working in their favor.
Kai-Ku ended up stuck on the wall—inside the Dai Li’s ship—next to another prisoner named Long Fei. Kai-Ku tried to bond with him, but he was horrified to learn Long Fei was an actual criminal and convicted serial killer. Long Fei murdered many of the HERO Academy’s students; the ones K-Krew had left behind. Kai-Ku was enraged, and somehow both of them broke out to fight each other. It was pretty wild. Then Kai-Ku rolled a NAT 1 and broke his White Sword again. This pissed him off further. By the end of the fight, Kai-Ku killed Long Fei.
This caused the alarm to go off in the Dai Li’s spaceship. Kai-Ku ran to the nearest exit, running into Gundam at the luggage section. They managed to escape the ship before it officially took off and made it back to the Wave Rider, fully fueled. The Wave Rider jumped back to the Temporal Zone, where they’d be safe for the time being. This made Kai-Ku sad about his White Sword being broken again. He really loved using that sword. This made him want to visit Gaara’s Desert Village, wanting him to fix it.
Cent Kelsier agreed and set their course for the Desert Village before the Dai Li agents could break into the Temporal Zone. Gundam reversed engineered the tracking chip, and he discovered the Dai Li agents were trying to follow them. The Temporal Zone was unfamiliar territory for them, as Cent Kelsier was the only traveler knowledgeable enough to use and access the Temporal Zone. Anyway, Cent Kelsier drove the Wave Rider out of the Zone and into the Desert Village, a dimension nearby Fuki City.
They arrived at the Desert Village in the aftermath of their latest war battle. Hundreds of troops injured or dead, the sand buildings destroyed, and Gaara floating in a sand ball fighting against a man flying on a clay bird. There were constant explosions. The Wave Rider kept its distance, but Killion flew out when he saw Gaara was falling to the ground. Gaara used the last of his power to protect the Desert Village from a huge ass explosion. Killion didn’t make it in time.
Gaara’s opponent swooped in, catching Gaara first. The enemy flew away, as Killion wasn’t able to keep up due to the bombs getting thrown at him. Kai-Ku and Gundam helped the troops get to the medical tent, where they were reunited with Temari. She begged K-Krew to save her brother from Deidara, the enemy who attacked Gaara and the Desert Village.
K-Krew agreed to the mission. Cent and the other students would help rebuild / defend the Desert Village in the meantime. Cent provided K-Krew with a dune buggy for the trip through the desert. Gundam insisted on being the driver. They headed out across the sands, only to have a bad run-in with three Sand Benders. They were working for Deidara, ordered to stop anyone from following him and Gaara.
The Sand Benders chased K-Krew, but Killion and Kai-Ku gunned them down. Gundam did this cool car move that made one of them jump into the air to dodge. This caused Killion or Kai-Ku to shoot him down. I forgot who took down the last Sand-Bender, but he fell down hard. Then K-Krew tortured him for information regarding Deidara. Information that Krypto provided after the Sand Bender refused to talk.
Deidara was a hired assassin who loved the arts. He used his assassin gold pieces to fund his artwork. He specialized in clay bombs and had a special mask scouter that prevented illusions and charms. Deidara had a bad run-in with an illusionist and refused to let himself be tricked like that again. Killion thought that was really convenient. He loved casting the Charm Person and other illusion spells. In the end, Killion used Charm Person on the Sand Bender, forcing him to escort K-Krew outside the desert.
The team ended up in a meadow region, where they found a dark cave. K-Krew entered and found Deidara sitting on Gaara. Deidara tried to have a conversation, but Killion sent his flying swords at him immediately. He started bleeding clay material and revealed mouths with sharp teeth in his hands.
The battle officially started. The bombs were initially throwing everyone off, but they managed to take Deidara down. Then it turned out whenever Deidara cried out, “You’re ruining my art!” He was referring to the damage being done to his clay clone. K-Krew were fighting a clone of Deidara the entire time. They didn’t worry about it, wanting to check on Gaara instead. He was dead, but Kai-Ku knew there was a way to bring him back to life. Doctor Sylar—brother of Doctor Suresh—might have the Dragon Yolk that resurrected Killion in season one. They were planning on using that to save Gaara’s life.
Gundam—using the reversed tracking chip—located Doctor Sylar about to take off in his spaceship. K-Krew called Cent Kelsier to pick them up, needing to stop Doctor Sylar from escaping the Desert Village Dimension. The Wave Rider caught up to the Dai Li’s Ship and shot it down to the ground. Seeing this confirmed Doctor Sylar and the Dai Li Police Force were working together. K-Krew and Cent waited for Dai Li agents, ambushed them, and Kai-Ku took their clothes for a disguise.
K-Krew and Cent infiltrated the ship, took out Dai Li agents, and discovered Doctor Sylar in his lab going madder. He wanted all three players for experimentations. Well, he wanted Killion to get revenge for his brother’s death. Remember, Gilgamesh was the one who executed Doctor Suresh. Everyone proceeded to fight. Doctor Sylar turned himself into a cyborg, making himself stronger and immune to charms and illusion tricks. He also had a lightning cannon that Gundam copied through Data Drain.
At the end of the battle, Doctor Sylar was infected with Gundam’s Infection Rate. Killion and Kai-Ku finished him off. Killion took the corpse, smashed the head “just in case”, and threw it in his dimension portal. He wanted Doctor Sylar’s cybernetic parts to be reused as battle armor for himself. They looted the lab afterward, finding a Dragon Yolk vial mixed with Gaara’s Sand Beast. They used that to resurrect Gaara from death.
Gaara was so happy to be finally alive and free of the demon within. Nobody had the heart to tell him that he was resurrected using the Sand Beast DNA. The whereabouts of the actual Sand Beast were unknown. K-Krew didn’t care at the moment though. They were just happy that Gaara was alive and joining the team. Gaara decided to pursue his own destiny free of the Sand Beast.
The villagers were happy to find Gaara alive and supported his decision. Temari was left in charge of Desert Village’s recovery process. The session ended with K-Krew gaining another teammate and resuming their course to The Vanishing Point, where they will finally take the HERO License Exam. The next two sessions—episodes 9 and 10—will redefine this HERO campaign. Thanks for reading up on our adventures, everyone!
