Welcome to the mid-season premiere of season two! This latest D&D session—season 2, episode 6—wrapped up the Undercover Internship SAGA in a crazy way. It wasn’t a neat wrap-up, but at least the players have a new goal by the end of this session. Technically, the “new goal” was an old goal, but the players are more committed to doing it given how we ended the mid-season premiere.
Picking up where we left off, D-Crew were heading to a Black-Market Surgeon to fix Kai-Ku’s leg. On the way, they ran into Roshi and Team Desert. Everyone had a talk about what Gaara did to Kai-Ku’s leg, but the player only cared about getting Gaara and his team on their side. They were committed to the vigilante team idea, but they didn’t have an actual plan yet when they offered Gaara a position. Gaara was glad to be forgiven for what he did, but he wasn’t interested in joining a team that didn’t have HERO licenses.
The players found that to be fair. Gaara offered to fix Kai-Ku’s White Sword instead, which was an agreement they could work with. The players continued onward to the Surgeon’s house, wandering to a strange junkyard area. The surgeon introduced himself as Doctor Sylar—via the security camera above the front door—and asked the players why they’ve come to his residence. Kai-Ku explained his leg and gave his life story as well. Doctor Sylar asked for Kai-Ku’s life story as payment. However, things quickly escalated when Doctor Sylar learned Gundam was a War Forged.
Doctor Sylar wanted to buy Gundam. Gundam refused to sell himself for a robot leg. However, Kai-Ku had already injected himself with a knockout drug, agreeing to sell his friend for a new robot leg. Doctor Sylar pinned Gundam to the wall—using telekinesis—and prepared to perform surgeries on both players. Doctor Sylar revealed he had done this procedure to many War Forged beings, having made them all his faithful servants.
As a result of learning he might be enslaved, Gundam mentioned knowing the Son of Gilgamesh, offering Killion to Doctor Sylar in exchange for Kai-Ku and himself. This was an interesting bargain to consider.
Side-note: Killion left the group earlier to take a long rest at the submarine instead of heading inside the Surgeon’s House with Kai-Ku and Gundam.
Doctor Sylar was intrigued with the potential specimen, agreeing to let Gundam go so he can retrieve Killion for him. In the meantime, Doctor Sylar would be performing surgery on Kai-Ku’s leg. Doctor Sylar also warned Gundam if he pulled any funny business, then he would kill Kai-Ku in the middle of surgery. Gundam understood the risks and ran the hell out of there to get Killion.
Gundam got Killion, and they headed back to the house with a couple ideas. They were definitely not going to hand Killion over, but Gundam considered using someone else as bait. Using the luck of the D20 roll, Gundam found a little human boy riding a scooter. Gundam knocked the kid out and decided to use him as bait. Then the mother came looking, and they made a big scene outside. There was a NAT 1 somewhere in the chaos to clear up why everything went so wrong.
Six War Forged enemies approached Killion and Gundam. Using an insight check, Gundam spotted a gas line nearby the War Forges and shot it with a fire bullet. The explosion killed all the War Forges in an instant. This was actually very impressive. As a result, Doctor Sylar decided to send Kai-Ku after his friends next. Kai-Ku tried to resist in the middle of surgery, but Doctor Sylar implanted a mind control device. Kai-Ku was forced to fight his friends.
The players didn’t hold back on each other whatsoever. After several rounds, Gundam and Killion managed to destroy the mind control device inside Kai-Ku’s new robot leg. Around this time, Gundam and Killion found Dr. Hiro, Doctor Sylar’s Lab Assistant. They found him when they wanted to kidnap a random criminal somewhere in Baldur’s Gate. The players used Dr. Hiro to learn some vital exposition regarding Doctor Sylar.
Doctor Sylar loved experimentation. In addition to enslaving War Forged beings, he created the speed drugs. The worst part was learning Doctor Sylar was Doctor Suresh’s older brother. Doctor Suresh was the main antagonist of season 1, a Human Wizard that tried to resurrect the Great Demon, Lian Yu from Ninth Hell.
D-Crew barged into the house and attacked. Kai-Ku slashed Doctor Sylar’s head off, but he was still alive despite the decapitation due to the experiments he done on himself. This led to an explosive plan. Gundam blasted the chemicals in the basement, causing the whole place to blow up. Kai-Ku tried to grab Dr. Hiro, but he was revealed to be another Doctor Sylar. Kai-Ku barely made it out of the explosion, jumping out of there like a Power Ranger.
Doctor Sylar survived the explosion, but he wasn’t much of a threat given he body-jumped into Dr. Hiro. They eventually left him to fend for himself. The players didn’t think Doctor Sylar was worth the trouble, cutting their losses with him.
The players learned a valuable lesson about mad surgeons—again—and moved on to the Baldur’s Tournament’s semi-finals. Once they arrived back at the submarine to prepare for their round, they encountered Gen Kai. After learning what the players have endured throughout season two, she decided it was time to transfer her Spirit Wave Orb to Kai-Ku. Gen Kai declared her own students have surpassed her sooner than expected. Everyone said they already knew that part, but it was awesome Gen Kai finally figured it out.
Before everyone separated though, the players had a run-in with Savitar, the God of Speed. Savitar revealed his true identity as a time remnant of Kai-Ku from a different timeline wearing War Forged Battle Armor, otherwise known as Gundam’s body. Savitar traveled back in time to ensure his dark existence, since Kai-Ku only broke his leg in this current timeline. In Savitar’s timeline, Kai-Ku lost most of his body to Gaara’s sand attack and that lead to Kai-Ku getting addicted to the speed drugs and absolute power.
Savitar planned to ensure things get set back on course, even if Savitar had to be the one to break Kai-Ku’s body. This speedster wanted to stay alive. Then Savitar sped away from the players, saying he’ll see D-Crew at the finals. After this encounter, Gundam destroyed the last of their speed drugs.
Gen Kai and Kai-Ku left to an empty dark cave, where Kai-Ku endured torment trying to absorb Gen Kai’s power. In the meantime, Gundam and Killion had to fight in the semi-finals without Kai-Ku. This presented an interesting challenge, given who their opponents were.
Team Snow was their next opponents in the tournament, a team lead by Gilly Snow—Killion’s older half-brother and Gilgamesh’s Bastard. The format was 2-on-1. Team D-Crew was taking on Team Snow one member at a time. The first member was Cu, a human Lancer. After he was taken down, Priest Kirei stepped up with Wolverine Claws. This guy was tougher with consecutive NAT 20 strikes against Gundam. The same with Gilly Snow and his two golden swords. Gilly Snow gave Gundam and Killion a hard time. He was skilled with those blades.
Killion defeated Gilly Snow using Charm Person, a spell used to mind-control someone. Gilly Snow was becoming an all-powerful boss, but he rolled a NAT 1 to the spell. This was humiliating for the Bastard Son. Gilly disappeared, swearing vengeance on his brother for this defeat. An impressive victory for Killion and Gundam. After they won and recovered in healing chambers, Kai-Ku rejoined them with Gen Kai’s new power coursing through his veins. Gen Kai was barely alive from the extraction, but she was proud of all her students—even Roshi Nighthill—for making it this far in the internship.
Not long after D-Crew left the sub to get more speed drugs, Gen Kai was killed. D-Crew found her body in the streets. They tried potion of healings and Cure Wounds, but she wasn’t going to survive. Without her power, Gen Kai was too weak to fight back. She told D-Crew that it was an unknown member of Team Seven, but she wouldn’t say a name. She told them not to pursue vengeance before passing away. The players decided to get their vengeance on the unknown member of Team Seven.
The players even came up with a battle plan for the final round.
However, the rules suddenly changed for the Dark Tournament. The final round will be 1 on 1 fights with substitutions allowed. Whoever beat all three members would win Baldur’s Tournament and Eri Menos. It took six sessions—episodes—of season two to get to this epic showdown. Can the players actually win? Will they get vengeance or justice for Gen Kai?
At this point in the session, everyone was hyped to finally win Baldur’s Tournament.
Lord Wit and Savitar gave the players a run for their money. Third member didn’t dare show up again. Lord Wit was a master swordsman, and Savitar’s speed was simply overwhelming though. Gundam, Kai-Ku, and Killion rotated in-and-out whenever their HP was low. They drank potions of healings or casted Cure Wounds in-between their breaks. Savitar was the first one to be defeated, failing to recreate his history, but he managed to destroy Kai-Ku’s White Sword and Killion’s kryptonite sword. Gundam’s guns were jammed a lot too from NAT 1 rolls.
However, Savitar was still erased from history. Lord Wit went down when his lead armor broke, allowing the players to use their kryptonite weapons against him.
All that was left was the final member of Team Seven. When Toguro stepped into the ring shirtless, the players flew into an outrage. They believed Toguro had betrayed them. Toguro confessed to killing Gen Kai in order to motive Kai-Ku into using his full power against him. Toguro started at 80% power, wanting a chance to fight against Gen Kai’s power. He also wanted Gundam and Killion to give it their all too.
The last time Toguro and the players fought each other was back in the season 1 finale (season 1, episode 10), which got them this internship. Toguro proved to be a way more challenging opponent at 80% power than 30%. Toguro smashed Kai-Ku with his fists and fired air bullets that hurt a lot against Gundam and Killion. Once Kai-Ku tapped into the Spirit Wave and dealt Toguro a lot of damage, Toguro proceeded to use 100%.
The final fight raged on. Killion launched a fireball, Gundam fired insane fire bullets, and Kai-Ku unleashed another Spirit Wave—the final nail in the coffin. Toguro couldn’t handle D-Crew’s teamwork.
Using his dying breath, Toguro revealed—on national television—the “truth” about K-Krew and Gen Kai following him to Baldur’s Gate and stopping his villainous plan with Eri Menos. Toguro also confessed to killing Gen Kai, knowing she was going to die painfully without her Spirit Wave Orb. He showed Gen Kai mercy. K-Krew started to realize Toguro was publicly giving them HERO recognition for completing a high-level HERO job. For killing a “B-level villain”. Toguro was looking out for them from the start.
Toguro told K-Krew that he wanted to fight someone stronger than him, and fighting all three fulfilled his purpose in this life. He was ready to let go and serve his punishment in the afterlife. It was the least he could do. On that note, Toguro withered and died.
K-Krew were the official champions of the Baldur’s Tournament. The entire audience cheered out of fear and respect. The Tournament Announcer reluctantly handed over Eri Menos resting in a healing chamber. The players decided not to question it yet and ran out of the stadium, not looking to get into another fight. They took Eri Menos back to the submarine. They wondered who’ll drive the submarine with Toguro now dead.
At the docks, the players ran into an interesting Water Genasi named Vincent “Cent” Kelsier, a doppelganger of Vin Kelsier from the previous campaign. This version—Cent—traveled the multiverse for treasure and found the players very interesting. He wanted them to join his epic adventures around the multiverse.
K-Krew considered the idea, but they wanted to go back to HERO Academy and get their HERO licenses first. Toguro and Gen Kai made arrangements before their deaths for K-Krew to apply way early for the licenses. Cent understood and realized that would be easier, since they would need those licenses to travel the multiverse. Cent promised to come back for the players when they had their licenses.
Gaara also said the same thing when he arrived at the docks with Temari and Lily. He and Temari will go home first to asset his village’s war situation, but Lily offered to travel with K-Krew and her brother Roshi. The players accepted her along because Lily knew how to drive the submarine. After everyone double-checked everything, K-Krew, Roshi, and Lily entered the submarine and began traveling back to Bubby Island.
The players were finally ready to become professional heroes.
The session—and The Undercover Internship SAGA—ended there. The saga lasted 6 episodes—sessions. The next 4 episodes will be the “HERO License Arc”. Plus, Ultra!
