After our much needed break, the Enforcers have finally reunited to play D&D once again! It just took me a week to write it up. The storylines are beginning to feel tied nearing the opening of the Ginyu Games, the tournament that will determine their journey’s next path. Menos left off going on a quest for a legendary weapon while a village from another world threatens to shame Kai-tick and XerX out of the training room.
Kai-tick and XerX’s plan to become kings fell apart within five minutes. They didn’t have a plan to keep up the poorly-kept appearances, and a couple bad rolls had the Phandalin-2 villagers throwing cabbages at them. This lasted for about ten minutes until I made a last minute decision to move them over to Menos’ trials. Kai-tick and XerX will deal with their off-the-rails story in the next session.
How? Ten the Wizard, as punishment for neglecting their training to become stronger warriors, sent their souls into fake bodies, where Menos found them as allies in Train’s teamwork tests. Train is the neutral spirit putting Menos through the ultimate test, to determine if he is is worthy of the legendary weapon.
Kai-tick and XerX were essentially reanimated beings who could put their bodies through ridiculous explosions. They took interesting approaches to their “sort-of” immortality. Menos, XerX, and Kai-tick were reunited for a short time, which was refreshing to say the least. They battled zombies, out-lasted a sad frost monster’s blizzard, built a boat to sail the fake ocean blue, and chose each other as that old beautiful saying goes, “My Friends Are My Power!”
Menos completed the trials, with the help of his fellow Enforcers, and they shared the disturbing news of fatherhood with one other. All the catching up with each other on what they did from their previous sessions was truly remarkable. As they bid farewell, Kai-tick and XerX were more determined than ever to finish their one-year / one-day training and ascend to the next level.
This was a low-key session to give the players a levity instead of just diving back into the usual “one-year training” story. Next session, the players should be finishing up the time chamber arc to rejoin Menos for what’s waiting for him back at Greenest.
