Digimon Adventure REBOOT Episode 35 "The Glowing Angewomon" Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
Episode 35—“The Glowing Angewomon”—had great character development for Kari and Gatomon. While the action sequences are consistently amazing with the fan-service, like the underwater battles reminded me of battling underwater in Digimon World 3, the plot needs some work to keep things flowing more smoothly. However, the heartfelt moment between Kari and Gatomon was nice. Gatomon being afraid of digivolving made sense as becoming DarkKnightmon again would be traumatizing. I do like how Gatomon was this evil Digimon the entire time, and how that still affected her mental state for the past two episodes.
Kari and Gatomon were given enough character development though, which made their digivolve into Angewomon feel 100% earned. I also enjoyed the subtle nostalgia of using MarineDevimon as the villain because he was supposed to be the main antagonist of the Dark Ocean from Adventure 02. The Digimon Reboot villains need personalities seriously. The world-building would be so much better if the villains were given personalities and motives for doing what they’re doing.
Do the Digimon Writers even remember Myotismon? Phantomon? Piedmon? Anyone?
The underwater battles were giving me hard Digimon World 3 vibes like I said earlier. How they can breathe and fight underwater made sense. The Digimon Reboot is delivering the exposition more effectively, which I appreciate. Izzy needs to be something other than an exposition dumper. Like I get that he’s smart, but the kid’s more than his brain. There was a whole character arc about it during the “Myotismon Arc” of the original series. I’m being mean. I should stop.
The cliffhanger made me wonder if Izzy was getting his Mega-centric episode next week, but apparently BlitzGreymon is going to make his debut. I’m not extremely happy about that. Yes. I’m a Greymon-simp type fan—give me anything Tai, Agumon, Greymon, etc … but I hate how it’s making the overall story suffer. The special “Tai” treatment feels like an unnecessary thing right now because he just got WarGreymon 5 episodes ago. Tai doesn’t need two Mega forms when everyone else didn’t get even one yet. Matt Ishida didn’t even get MetalGarurumon yet. Tai does not need all this attention, but BlitzGreymon is HYPE!!
Being both an objective reviewer and a simple fanboy is so hard sometimes.
Overall, I enjoyed the newest episode but find the reboot’s usual issues too annoying at this point. I’m interested in what’s going on next, but the BlitzGreymon will both amaze and annoy me at the same time. Izzy deserved his HerculesKabuterimon first, but the B-team characters will never get the love they deserve. They deserve it so much, but I have faith that the series will deliver. The series did a good job on Kari and TK’s introductions and development though, so that’s a good start.
Thanks for reading this episode review. I’ll see you all next week in the Digital World!
P.S. I will be competing in my Digi-Locals Tourney this weekend (the 14th) on Valentine’s Day, so wish me all the luck and love for the new deck I’m trying to build. I also created a new Digi-YouTube Channel as NGO DM AA, where I talk about Digi-Deck Profiles, Attack on Target videos, and potentially Digi-Matches. Check it out when y’all have a second. I’d really appreciate it!
