Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint Prologue (episodes 0 and 1) Webnovel Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webnovel Review. Please read with caution.
On October 30, 2020, I started and finished the Prologue of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint—often referred to as Omniscient Reader—is an ongoing English translated Webnovel by Singshong and Sleepy-C .
The story centers around the main character, Kim Dokja, being tossed into his favorite Webnovel, Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World. A true fanboy’s dream come true turned realistic nightmare. However, the plot doesn’t kick in until 7am on the day the final chapter is released.
Episodes 0 and 1 are dedicated to building Kim Dokja’s character, his love for the Webnovel, and being a stand-in for the reader who likely feels the same way. Kim Dokja’s feelings and dedication to a certain series reflects how I am as a fanboy except I do have an outlet with my Writers’ Group, friends, and family members with similar interests.
Sadly, Kim Dokja doesn’t have friends who share his interest—or anybody on the Internet—since he’s literally the only reader of the massive ongoing Webnovel. That’s straight-up depressing; it’s like being the only person who’s a fan of One Piece. The first two episodes even dedicated a surreal moment where he felt bad about not being able to donate to the author—something I’ve also brought up in my Writers’ Group too some time ago about supporting the artists who are working hard to get these amazing stories out there for us fans.
Like, I owe so many authors my life at this point, and they will just have to find a way to share it when they come to collect someday. But, it’s a price I’m willing to pay them for always being there for me, and that’s the same exact feeling Kim Dokja’s experiencing when he’s preparing himself to read the Epilogue. Saying goodbye to something that’s been there for you since eighth grade isn’t an easy thing to do. Why are my Digimon Adventure Last Evolution Kizuna feelings coming back? Why am I crying now?
The artwork is gorgeous and reminds me of styles from Persona and Psycho Pass—more on Psycho Pass because I’ve seen that anime, but I’ve seen others compare it to Persona as well. The artwork is trying to emulate clean animation, and it’s working beautifully especially with the small intricate details in the background.
Overall, I’m going to keep it reading until I catch up. I would recommend y’all do the same and give this Webnovel a chance. The entire Webnovel is completed, but the English translations are being worked on and new episodes are posted every Wednesday. Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is currently on episode ??? at time of publication. Thanks for reading this Webnovel review, everyone! According to my Writers’ Group, I might get nightmares! Let’s go, monsters! I’m already comfortable with being uncomfortable!
