Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint Chapter 2: “The Protagonist” (episodes 7 through 12) Webnovel Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webnovel Review. Please read with caution.
On October 30, 2020, I started and finished Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint Chapter 2: “The Protagonist”. Chapter 2 begins to fully set-up the apocalyptic world, giving us an episode or two dedicated to some exposition. After defeating Namwoon and letting him die because he failed to kill anybody, Kim Dokja and four other survivors—Yoo Sangah, Lee Hyunsung, Han Myungoh, and Lee Gilyoung—officially passed the first scenario in the subway.
The characters were given choices on constellations—sponsors—to help them on this journey through the apocalypse, with Kim Dokja having a distinct advantage because he’s the sole reader of the Webnovel. So, he considers constellations carefully—giving us exposition on who these people are—in addition to planning out what to do next as the plot continues.
Since Dokja rewrote some of the plot—“changed the future”—by killing Namwoon Kim, he’s being cautious of what the plot could look like now in addition to them being players instead of readers. This Webnovel is similar to the concept of Dungeons & Dragons—one player is prepared for the epic adventure ahead of them, but the others have a hard time grasping their character sheet. This Webnovel is completely meta.
The artwork on the violence is my favorite part of this Webtoon—reminding me of Fate/Zero and all the death and gore that came our way. The disclaimer at the top of every episode is definitely important though, so if you’re not comfortable or would get nightmares from these triggering scenes, I would seriously advise taking your time on the Webnovel. I blasted through all 18 episodes in a three-hour sitting, but I’m like Kim Dokja and found “[our] hearts beating with joy in this precarious situation?”
I would also recommend playing dark OST while reading this Webtoon—not for those who get triggered—but for those who need the full experience of an anime while reading a Webtoon or manga. I used Attack on Titan OST for the “main protagonist” scene between Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk—the best moments of the chapter. I loved their dynamic, and how Yoo Joonghyuk went “brooding protagonist”. I loved the dark tone surrounding those scenes—it gave off such a Batman / Arrow vibe especially with the chokehold and punches to the gut followed by the classic, “talk!”
Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is a fast-paced Webnovel—as it should be, its’ a novel—that makes me click next without really thinking about it. If I were a causal reader and not blogger who needed to stop at the end of every chapter arc to write these reviews—I love you all—I would just keep on reading nonstop. The cliffhangers urge you to turn the page to see what happens next. Thanks for taking the time to read this Webnovel Review, everyone! I really appreciate the support.
I’ll see you all in my Chapter 3 Webnovel review!
