Digimon Adventure REBOOT Episode 30 "The Mega Digimon, WarGreymon" Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
Episode 30—“The Mega Digimon, WarGreymon”—kicked off with Garudamon fighting off a couple Megadramon. I was loving the Sora-Garudamon attention, but it also made me worry for her safety. However, Sora survived when Garudamon was blasted with fire from the Megadramon so maybe I should trust the plot armor surrounding these kids.
Izzy was the exposition dumper as usual, but he did drop that a friend was helping with the computer stuff. So, that friend might be Willis from America, a main character from Digimon: The Movie. That reference made me think twice because Lopmon is also here in this episode. Lopmon is the Rookie form of one of Willis’ twin Digimon.
After Tai and Sora regroup, they decide Tai will “stall” the enemy Digimon while Sora leads the Woodsmon and Lopmon away to a cave. This was a recycled plot thing that already happened in episode 10 when MetalGreymon made his debut. I’m afraid the recycled story elements might be a recurring thing. Also, Tai and MetalGreymon are absolute monsters on the battlefield. They were not stalling. They were kicking ass!
MetalGreymon versus Parrotmon was nostaglic, but I wished these Digimon enemies have personalities. I’m realizing most of the Digimon enemies aren’t actual characters, just monsters that need to be put down for the fight scenes. The only enemy Digimon who showed a personality was Ogremon, but then he died.
Parrotmon digivolved into Crossmon, a Mega-level Digimon, and proceeded to wreck MetalGreymon and Tai, knocking them down to the ground and nearly killing them. I wasn’t surprised, but I really did enjoy the emotional Tai-Agumon payoff that built up WarGreymon’s official debut. The flashbacks to Tai and Agumon’s friendship could’ve been better if the Reboot invested more time into character development for all their characters rather than this breakneck pace of a plot, but I’m also a big simp for Tai and Agumon. Damn my Digimon childhood memories, you’re clouding my judgement.
After Crossmon wrecked MetalGreymon Alteros Mode’s arm, Tai and MetalGreymon are on the verge of death. Then Tai asks MetalGreymon if he can go on, and unlocks the digi-power to unleash WARGREYMON! The Veggiemon freaked out, and I do hope he’s given some English Dub lines once the Reboot gets an English Dub.
WarGreymon’s debut was gorgeous, and he’s way bigger compared to the original series. The animation was slicker than the MetalGreymon debut back in episode 10. This entire episode’s animation was much better compared to the previous episodes. WarGreymon used his brave shield in such a creative way; they launched off his back and protected his body immediately—similar to Gaara’s absolute sand defense. I liked that very much.
Honestly, I was fanboying very hard for WarGreymon showing up in the Reboot series. Episode 30 concluded with WarGreymon defeating Crossmon and all the other enemy Digimon in one shot—GAIA FORCE!
I loved the episode, but it also followed the usual issues previous episodes had. I hope Sora and Biyomon get a bigger role moving forward. Hikari and SkullKnightmon were also briefly seen. Hikari (Kari) asked where they were going, but he didn’t answer. This episode was good for the official WarGreymon debut, but I’m not liking how the plot is wash, rinse, and repeat. Hopefully, when Gatomon shows up, things get better. We’re a little too close to the halfway point of the Reboot series…
Thanks for reading this episode review, everyone! I’ll see you all next week in the Digital World!
