Digimon Adventure REBOOT Episode 4 “Birdramon Soars” Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
Welcome back to my Digimon reviews! After a two-month broadcasting break, Digimon Adventure REBOOT returned on June 28, 2020 with episode 4. I will always be an episode or two behind on reviews just to let you readers know. But if you’re interested in my first three Digimon episode reviews, the links are listed below:
I thought this episode—“Birdramon Soars”—was a great introduction back into the Digital World, and connecting the stakes to the Human World as well. This was one of the few issues I had with the original series. When the DigiDestined were stopping villains like Devimon and Etemon in order to save the Digital World, there was no real threat against the Human World.
In the Reboot series, the plot already connected the dangers to both worlds and divided the characters to emphasize this. As far as we know, only Tai and Sora have arrived in the Digital World. Izzy ended up in the Network World, now making his way to the Digital World alongside Tentomon. Clearly based on the episode title, Sora and Biyomon also met and bonded in this episode.
Since it’s been awhile since I reviewed the series, let’s recap highlights:
The animation and artwork were well-done. This episode showed us a new and amazing digivolution sequence for Agumon and Biyomon’s Champion forms. Also, the new OST music was a great idea to do as it helped make the Reboot series appear like a separate entity from the original series. I think the writers learned from Digimon Adventure Tri’s mistakes of overdoing the digivolution process and the nostalgia music. The fight scenes in this episode were still clean and seamless to watch.
Having Tai, Sora, and Izzy involved in the plot made me excited to see the others at some point. The cliffhanger of the episode confirmed that the rebooted series will be doing a remake of the “Devimon Arc” from the original series. I’m so happy Digimon is back in our lives. Let’s keep it moving—happily weekly—and save the Digital World! Let’s be grateful our Digimon friends have returned to us.
