Digimon Adventure REBOOT Episode 6 “The Targeted Kingdom” Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
Mimi and Palmon have joined the team in this episode. Similar to her time with the Gekomon and Otamamon back in the original series, Mimi had declared herself a Queen in a Tanemon Village. After a brief misunderstanding—Mimi thought Sora and Tai were fruit thieves trying to steal from the village—and learning they all had Digivices, everyone becomes friends. Izzy is still in the Network World with Kabuterimon, relaying all the information he can regarding the digital attack on Tokyo. In this episode, it’s also revealed time moves differently between the Human World and the Digital World. Wild.
Mimi’s background is briefly explored, as we learned she might have been transported to the Digital World earlier than the others due to this time lapse. We also see Mimi’s Grandfather—the chairman of the Tachikawa Industries—in one of Izzy’s news message from the Human World.
In the original series, Mimi didn’t have a grandfather—or at least not one mentioned, so this makes me wonder how this will factor into Mimi’s rebooted character and the plot overall. However, watching Mimi make Tai and Sora her servants—Number 72 and Number 73 respectively—after they agreed to help her protect Tanemon Village made me feel more relaxed.
Mimi will always be Mimi after all.
The bond between Mimi and Palmon is already filled with so much love. Seriously, I teared-up a bit when they told each other “I love you”. I’m such an emotional guy, but it’s okay. I love the Digimon too. Palmon’s evolution was also nice and unique similar to Tentomon and Biyomon’s, but I’m worried the series might be focusing too heavily on Agumon’s gorgeous digivolution sequence. Like, why doesn’t everyone else’s Digimon have that gorgeous sequence? Biyomon also digivolved into Birdramon off-screen, and I thought that was so uncool. What’s going on, Digimon Adventure Reboot?
Overall, there wasn’t much else to say about episode 6. I thought it was a chill episode with Mimi and Palmon officially joining the team. On the evil side though, Ogremon attacked and lost his horn in a fight against Greymon, so that will likely lead to Ogremon holding a personal grudge. Next week will be a Joe-centric episode. I’m really looking forward to him and Gomamon meeting up with the others. Thanks for reading my episode review, everyone. Let’s kick it up with the rest of the DigiDestined (Chosen Children)!
