unOrdinary “Rage Arc” (Episode 67 through Episode 76) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
unOrdinary’s “Rage Arc” was action-driven. The eleventh arc centered around a group of unknown individuals trying to kidnap Seraphina. The scary part was that they nearly succeeded. They stalked and ambushed her with a drug that suppressed her powers. The scene was intense, and the stab wound wasn’t a joke either. I was feeling the suspense and Seraphina’s terror. Episodes 67 through 69 dealt with the attack, and how Seraphina was able to escape to John’s house.
Episode 70 and 71 had John bring Arlo and Elaine into the fold. John’s personality shift was a true 180. John barked orders—in black dialogue bubbles—at them, asserting his secret Alpha dog status. I was getting angry when John slapped Elaine—repeatedly—for not listening and not healing Seraphina immediately. It was really uncalled for. Their character dynamics were wild and tense. Arlo was not having it.
John ended up copying Elaine’s healing power and worked on Seraphina himself, discovering she was drugged and injected with something. In the meantime, Elaine and Arlo discussed who may have done this to Seraphina and how they did it. They also talked about the social hierarchy—if anything had changed. Poor Elaine. Arlo simply told her as long as nobody angered John, nothing had changed. Keeping this secret will definitely blow up in their faces.
Episodes 72 and 73 dealt with John, Arlo, and Elaine fighting the assailants trying to kidnap Seraphina again. They also noticed the assailants were able to dampen their powers to a certain degree through an unknown method. John and Arlo had to team-up in order to fight them off. They managed to escape, but at least they rescued Seraphina. I thought this was pretty insane.
Episode 74 handled the fallout. Arlo and John were trying to assign blame onto each other about what went wrong during the fight, and Elaine was forced into playing the peacemaker between the two boys. I said it once in a different review. I have to say it again. Poor Elaine. Seriously. The three of them discussed the motives of the attackers, why they specifically targeted Seraphina, and how they even managed to find her. The last question was the trackers in the teddy bears. This Webtoon really did play the long game very well—for that plot seed was planted back in the second arc of the series.
Episode 75 and 76 closed out the “Rage Arc” with Seraphina discovering her ability didn’t work anymore and John reverting back to his crippled self. Arlo and Elaine—and I—thought he was fake as hell. John also explained what happened with the attackers—minus how he fought too—and assured her everything will be okay. What a liar.
However, the Doctor explained that Seraphina’s powers will likely return once the drugs wore off, and John will be helpful since he was a crippled all his life. Again. What a liar. Arlo and Elaine explained the situation to the headmaster, but Elaine was still feeling uncertain about everything. Arlo assured Elaine that everything will be back to normal soon enough. She agreed, repeating it to herself until she believed it, but the audience was definitely not convinced. My coronavirus pandemic mind went, “Normal is gone!”
Overall, what a fantastic arc with plot momentum. I am having the time of my life with this Webtoon and its complex characters. The “Rage Arc” was just the beginning. So much plot might start happening soon. I’m ready to keep it reading with unOrdinary.
