The Promised Neverland “King of Paradise Arc” (Chapters 113 through 130) Manga Review
Major Spoilers are included in this manga review. Please read with caution.
Synopsis: The story began in an orphanage called Grace Field. We meet a twelve-year-old girl named Emma, who guides the reader—using exposition—through the orphanage and her typical day there doing chores, taking tests, and playing games—like tag. There are also over forty kids at this orphanage, all taken care of by a woman known as “Mama”. However, once Emma and another kid named Norman learn the twisted dark truth about the orphanage, they make a hasty plan to escape with their friend Ray.
I started and finished reading this arc on June 19, 2020. The “King of Paradise Arc”—the seventh story arc of the manga series—gave us an unexpected reunion. After the events of the “Cuvitida Arc”, Emma, Ray, and the other children arrived at the Paradise Hideout in search of William Minerva. There, the kids are reunited with an alive Norman, who was posing as William Minerva. The emotional reunion between Emma, Norman, and Ray was potent and well-earned.
Norman’s epic return also explained more demon lore, how they evolved to intelligent beings, and why they have to eat humans. We were also given answers on the special children—like Adam—with enhanced abilities. I have missed Norman explaining things about the demon world.
I thought the best part about the arc was Norman’s resolve to commit genocide against the demons in order to save humankind. Emma and Norman clashed over this subject. Emma wanted to save demons—or at the very least not kill them—too, due knowing good demons like Mujika and Sonju. Having Norman back in the manga series reminded me how much I missed his intelligence, but it also showed how much he changed from Emma and Ray since he was taken to a different farm for experimentation.
Honestly, The Promised Neverland is an amazing manga series. Since Norman had no intention of stopping his plan to exterminate the demons, Emma and Ray decided to travel to the Seven Walls in order to stop Norman’s plan. Onward to the “Seven Walls Arc”. I have 51 chapters left of The Promised Neverland. Let’s keep it reading!
