unOrdinary “Vigilante 2 Arc” (Episode 115 through Episode 118) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On May 31, 2020, I read the spiritual successor to the “Vigilante Arc”. While a short arc like the “Trio Trouble Arc”, this became easily one of my favorite arcs for the plot progression regarding Rei’s killer. The side-character trio—Remi, Isen, and Blyke—embarked on their second mission. As X-Rei, Remi tracked down an ability drug dealer named Alana to figure out the identity of her supplier. Blyke and Isen stayed hidden on rooftops to provide backup.
Things went dark from there. The supplier arrived and murdered Alana, revealing herself as Volcan. Remi grew furious encountering Volcan, recognizing her ability as the one that killed her brother. Blyke wanted Isen to go down and help while he sniped from a distance, but Isen—understandably—became very fearful of the actual life-and-death situation. I was on the edge of my seat reading Remi and Volcan fight knowing full-well that Remi could lose or die.
Luckily, Remi was only injured during the fight scene. Then Isen managed to overcome his fear to save her. All three of them escaped the scene, but they needed to bother Elaine for her healing power. Poor Elaine, seriously. She didn’t ask to get involved at all. Remi was furious that Volcan wasn’t take down, but Isen was done with their vigilante business. I thought this was a reasonable response to what happened in this arc.
Overall, I loved this arc more than the first “Vigilante Arc”. Honestly, my favorite character is Remi at this point. Her side-story interests me way more than John and Seraphina’s drama. She is actually the only character actively interested in the plot. Everybody else is too busy with their own character problems to care about EMBER. But hopefully that will change too. The social hierarchy will inevitably collapse. I have to believe they can overcome.
