The God of High School: Volume 2.5: Story of Tae-Jin: "Story of Tae-Jin Arc" (Episodes 113 through 118) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
This was a short arc—only six episodes—but it had a decent backstory that tied into the present day. The “Story of Tae-Jin Arc”, also known as Volume 2.5: Story of Tae-Jin, gave us greater insight into Tae-Jin’s background with his original squadron, the Re-Taekwondo Force and their last mission to stop a potential nuke in North Korea. The short arc also revealed how Tae-Jin founded and perfected Re-Taekwondo as a counter against ITF Taekwondo. The mini-adventure also had a X-Men Origins: Wolverine vibe due to the war setting, and how Tae-Jin was drawn to physically resemble Wolverine.
I enjoyed the mini arc as it answered how Tae-Jin ended up raising Jin Mo-Ri by the end, and how he was associated with Park II-Pyo’s Grandfather—a member of the Re-Taekwondo Force and a user of Re-Taekwondo himself. In the Webtoon, the squad was also known as Project Gilgamesh. I think the English translations used different names and spellings for this series at various times.
My favorite part of the mini-arc was the battle between Tae-Jin and the Gorilla. Yes, there was a crazy fight between the Master of Re-Taekwondo and a Gorilla. The battle had a surprising connection to Tae-Jin’s “solo” fight—the flashback scene from Volume 1: A Match with Gods—against The Six. There was a reason I put air quotes over “solo”.
Overall, this was a nice batch of special episodes. The next arc already was set-up to be amazing, and learning more about Tae-Jin made me even more excited to see what’s next for Jin Mo-Ri and his friends. Look out, Volume 3: Adventure! I’m coming for you too. BELIEVE IT!
