Digimon Adventure REBOOT Episode 28 “The Children’s Fight For Survival” Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
Episode 28—“The Children’s Fight For Survival”—separated the group as they just got back together, but at least Kari is with her big brother Tai. I wished the Digimon Reboot allowed everyone to stick together for one episode—to really form the group—before separating them again. This vibe is similar to how I’m feeling about Big Dad D. One Piece right now, but that’s a overall writing discussion for another time. Let’s dive into what actually happened in this episode.
Picking up with the Angemon vs DarkKnightmon from episode 27, Angemon managed to drive DarkKnightmon off—reverting him to SkullKnightmon—but it caused everyone to separate from each other for some reason. I’ll explain where everyone went when the clash happened another time when it’s relevant, as this episode chose to focus on Tai, Kari, and Agumon. Everyone else is on their own, but Tai managed to stick with his little sister lucky enough.
The episode implied Kari’s special digi-power could be the key to helping Agumon digivolve into WarGreymon regularly when the Mega Digivolution made a reappearance in a fight against Volcodramon. I wished the episode explored this aspect further, but it might also be a part of the Kari mystery for this next arc.
SkullKnightmon kidnapped Kari, but she willingly went with him to who knows where. She had a choice to try and run away, but she went with SkullKnightmon instead. Tai watched—in shock—as Kari and SkullKnightmon leave the scene, having no power to stop her from leaving especially with Agumon exhausted from fighting against Volcodramon.
I’m curious to see what SkullKnightmon’s role will be in this new arc moving forward, as he fits the recurring villain role at the moment. He seemed to be an underling of Devimon, but now his position seems to be above Devimon in the evil Digimon hierarchy. I do wonder what he wants with Kari, and if it’s connected to TK as well.
If the Digimon Writers decide to go the evil or brainwashed Digi-Destined route with Kari, that’s something I wouldn’t mind watching just because it’s a different route and similar to what happened in Digimon Xros Wars with DarkKnightmon and his tamer. I’m also excited to see what the series does with Gatomon if Kari does indeed team-up with DarkKnightmon first.
I don’t want to go over where all the Digi-Destined ended up yet, but Matt fighting his way back to TK reminds me of Matt trying to find TK from the original series. Matt is always trying his best to protect his little brother. Then there’s TK and Patamon putting on their brave faces moving forward to the parts unknown. Everyone else I’ll discuss once the episodes swung back on them, but mentioning TK and Matt first did seem important because it does connect with my feelings on Tai and Kari.
Overall, the new arc took a few steps backwards by separating everyone, but let’s hope the separation isn’t too long.
Thanks for reading this episode review, everyone! I truly appreciate it! I’ll see you all next week to watch episode 29 in the Digital World!
