Digimon Adventure REBOOT Episode 24 “The Final Stage, DoneDevimon” Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
Episode 24—“The Final Stage, DoneDevimon”—brought the “Devimon Arc” to a close. I do want to say that I am disappointed on how Devimon was handled—he barely felt like a character; he seemed more like something the DigiDestined had to beat down. There was no Dialogue exchange, or the usual “let me explain why I’m doing this”. The original series kind-of did this too with Devimon, but at least the original series built him up better using Leomon and Ogremon as characters.
Although, DoneDevimon’s personality did feel super Venom and Carnage from Spider-Man. I enjoyed seeing him go mad, with Tokomon explaining that Devimon sacrificed his sanity for more Digi-power. Also, Tokomon digivolved into Patamon at the end of this episode and into Angemon briefly when MetalGreymon went through a dark, corrupt digivolution. Even Tai went through a dark transformation with those red devil eyes and then getting swallowed by DoneDevimon.
MetalGreymon dark digivolving into Mugendramon was gorgeous. I was expecting SkullGreymon, but this was a welcomed change of pace. I didn’t like how it was rushed into the episode, but the idea of this happening was pretty cool. Seeing two insanity-driven Digimon duke it out is always fun to watch. Needing Matt and WereGarurumon to get knocked out to achieve the moment wasn’t so fun. They looked dead to be honest.
The sneak preview to WarGreymon though, when Angemon brought MetalGreymon back to his senses was really nice. It’s good foreshadow for the Mega Digimon coming in the next arc, and an effective way to defeat DoneDevimon. The rush to get to that conclusion wasn’t cool—made the whole thing feel anticlimactic without the other DigiDestined there—but the “Devimon Arc” is finally over.
The other DigiDestined in the B-Plot were losing, despite defeating the main Digimon who was giving Devimon his source of Digi-power. The virus hordes of Digimon weren’t stopping, and a lot of the boats in the Human World crashed into each other. Their role in the “Devimon Arc” is setting up the cliffhanger that the digital crisis isn’t over yet even with Devimon defeated.
In the Digital World, there’s an earthquake in the aftermath of defeating Devimon, so the next enemy and threat are likely coming next week. There are still a lot of issues with the reboot series, but I am enjoying the new digivolutions being introduced, the Tai-Matt moment when Tai pushed him off MetalGreymon so he can protect TK, and then of course the dark digivolution that wasn’t SkullGreymon.
The next set of episodes have an opportunity to keep the momentum going into the next arc, whatever it may be about. According to official sources though, Kari will be coming on board to the Digital World soon enough around episodes 25 to 27 range. I’m excited to see what kind of role she’ll play and the dynamic that will unfold with Tai, Matt, and their siblings. Hopefully, the other Digi-Destined will join them as well. We have to get the team back together! I’m hoping Myotismon is next. Thanks for reading this episode review, everyone! I’ll see you all next week in the Digital World!
