Tower of God Volume 3: “The Nest” (Episodes 49 through 52) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On October 6, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 3’s fourteenth story arc: “The Nest”. I’m starting to hit the story arcs that came out during 2020—so the more recent Tower of God Webtoon episodes. I have 16 more episodes to read until I reach the Webtoon’s highest point—episode 68.
I can’t believe I’m close to catching up to Tower of God. I couldn’t believe what happened to the canine people either during this arc. I was horrified to read Lo Po Bia Yasratcha force them all to kill each other—effectively enacting genocide on half the population.
Baylord Yama’s reaction was illustrated so emotionally raw—almost on par with Wangnan seeing Akraptor get murdered. I miss Ja Wangnan so much. Anyway, back to the senseless death that made Yama rage on Doom for not disclosing canine people originally were under control of the Lo Po Bia Family, which was how Yasratcha was able to control them. I can’t wait for Baylord Yama to have his revenge on Yasratcha—who also took some canine people as hostages to ensure he escaped the battlefield.
The focus on Baam and his guilt about “letting” the canine people die on his watch made him undergo character development. Baam cares too much, and seeing that trait mature over the course of the series was so refreshing to see in this arc.
Baam no longer made decisions without his teammates’ approval—like accepting deals and indirectly coercing them to go along with those deals. I like to think this is due to the “Rachel” chip on his shoulder finally coming off. I hadn’t mentioned Rachel in a while—given that she hadn’t showed up thankfully—so I thought I’d remind y’all how much I didn’t like her. Yeah, that mean comment probably wasn’t necessary but oh well.
Rachel sucks.
The arc also covered a week-long time jump, with Baam—on Khun’s suggestion—defeating a Ranker officially on the record to get everyone’s attention. The whole scene playing out made me seriously laughing out loud—LOL—when Baam easily defeated the Ranker with such ease in front of his secretary.
Hwa Ryun—my favorite beautiful redhead—finally returned in this arc, helping Baam out with his latest suicidal plan to invade The Nest. Khun and Rak were hilarious in adding the propaganda about Baam being stronger than other Rankers—and Rak adding that he was the leader still cracks me up. Seeing the original trio again is giving me hope that they will get satisfying character stories soon—especially Rak who hadn’t gotten anything substantial in the longest time.
The ending to this arc had everyone declaring war on each other. I loved how Baylord Yama and his brothers Doom and Paul have made up—to a certain extent—for the sake of their fallen comrades and to get revenge on the Lo Po Bia Family. Remember when Baylord Doom was the big threat? Remember when White—Hoaqiun—was too? And Karaka? Now all of them are helping Baam save his master from The Nest. I hadn’t seen a huge villain turnaround like this since Naruto.
Thanks for reading this Webtoon review, everyone! Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower!
