Tower of God Volume 2: The Last Station: “The Last Station” (Episodes 316 through 322) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On September 24, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 2: The Last Station’s first story arc: “The Last Station”. Reading The Hell Train blow up into a million pieces was very satisfying. The beginning had a lot of table-setting—getting everyone, including the new characters, in position for The Hell Train’s arrival. Zahard’s Empire coerced the Leader of the Last Station into helping them capture the Regulars on The Hell Train while everyone on The Hell Train prepared to escape.
Team Baam had to split into two teams—per Hwa Ryun’s suggestion—to give them the best chance of escaping from The Last Station. Neither Androssi or Evan trusted Hwa Ryun’s intentions due to her affiliation with FUG, but there was no other good option. Everyone splits up, with Team B—the side-characters—and Team Rachel getting captured by Zahard’s Royal Army.
White—Hoaqin—was also given character-focus in this arc, having convinced his last clone to merge with him out of desperation. I did appreciate SIU giving him screen time after such a long time, reminding us that White hadn’t awakened his full power yet and a brief repetitive flashback on his background. The artwork on his character design and action sequences against the Royal Army was super entertaining to read.
Yuri Zahard’s role was to stall Zahard’s Royal Army—by fighting Karaka publicly—while Team Baam tried to escape with a sleeping Khun. There is also an untold history between Yuri Zahard and Ha Cheonhee—a commander in Zahard’s Army—that implies Cheonhee is indeed stronger than Yuri; a fact that Yuri is weirdly proud of according to Evan. I’m curious to see how this character dynamic will turn out, given that they are on opposing sides at the moment.
After the confrontation Baam had with Rachel in the previous arc, it was good to see him try to save everyone from prison—giving Androssi a good reason to say that Baam hadn’t changed at all since they first met back in Volume 1. I feel the same way, Androssi. Baam will always take care of the people he cares about—a trait Rachel can never take away from him no matter what she tries to do in the future. Also, I was super pleased to see Rachel was stuck in the same prison too. You can rot in there for all I care, you bitch!
The Royal Army was using the hostages to draw Baam out—knowing Zahard wants Baam dead. I also liked the character dynamic between Baam and new character Lee Soyong, the daughter of The Last Station’s Leader. One of the few lighthearted moments that occurred during this arc. The story needed something like that to happen—and Androssi kicking Baam in the head like how Sakura hits Naruto. Such a classic move.
The fight scenes in this arc were drawn fantastically—particularly White’s onslaught of the foolish Rankers. There were so many gorgeous—and too many funny—White puns thrown in there to boot. Unfortunately, White and Karaka were captured by this end of this arc and taken to a Ranker-level prison area to keep them contained. With Karaka captured too, I wondered what happened to Wangnan. I hope he’s doing alright…
Evankhell and Yu Han Sung were also featured in this arc, seeking out Karaka’s heart at The Last Station alongside Karaka’s Servants. I shouldn’t be surprised that Karaka has powerful Servants, but here we are. This happened at the end of the arc, which set-up the next arc called “Evankhell”. Tower of God is preparing for war!
Everything was moving fast, with fleeting spaceships coming to destroy The Hell Train and kill everyone, more Divisions are being mobilized on behalf of Zahard, and now Baam is preparing to jailbreak his friends out of prison. I’m looking forward to seeing how these story elements play out.
Thanks for reading this Webtoon review, everyone! A lot of things from previous arcs—all the way back from Volume 1—are coming into play now. Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower!
