Digimon Adventure REBOOT Episode 17 “The Battle In Tokyo Against Orochimon” Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
The latest Digimon Adventure Reboot episode had a strong focus on plot and action with quiet character moments sprinkled in-between. Picking up where we left off from last week’s episode, the DigiDestined have reunited in time to fight against Orochimon—an eight-headed snake Ultimate Digimon. After MetalGreymon and Zudomon were knocked back into Rookies, everyone—except Matt—decided to retreat.
WereGarurumon saved Matt from his stubbornness—and Tai and Agumon too who tried to help Matt—but they were separated from everyone else. The quiet character moments were dedicated really to Sora, Mimi, Joe, and Izzy—who all reflected on their experience with the Digital World so far. Joe, Mimi, Izzy, and Sora expressed how much they learned and grew over the past few episodes. They also had a fun conversation about which Ultimate Digimon was bigger, cooler, and prettier.
Matt confided in Tai about TK living near Shibuya, and that was the reason he recklessly rushed to fight Orochimon. He just wants to keep his little brother safe. Tai should’ve said something about his little sister Kari too, but at least she showed up for a minute or two. TK and Kari are preparing to officially enter the series, with them both seeing glimpses of their brothers fighting Orochimon on the television screen.
I do hope Tai and Kari’s mom finds Kari soon though, because they were separated from each other amidst the chaos happening in Tokyo. TK is safe in his apartment room, but he’s been trying to call his big brother Matt this whole time. This was sad, seeing how scared TK was about everything and not being able to call his brother.
The action sequences and fight scenes were the main highlights of the episode though, with all the Ultimates working together to defeat Orochimon. MetalGreymon finally used his Giga Destroyer attack to defeat Orochimon, but the battle isn’t over yet. A countdown started—10 minutes—and appeared everywhere in both Human and Digital Worlds, ending the episode on the most suspenseful cliffhanger.
The downside—and a positive side at the same time—was Tai and Matt’s special treatment. They teamed-up for most of the episode, which was indeed awesome, but the other characters need to get special attention too. The special Digivolution sequences for Agumon and Gabumon were also amazing, but the other Digimon deserve them too. They didn’t even get to Digivolve; they just showed up in their Ultimate forms ready to help out Matt and Tai for the climatic finish.
Overall, I did enjoy the plot momentum happening in this episode for both Human and Digital Worlds. The stakes are higher than ever, with both worlds in danger, and now the DigiDestined only have 10 minutes to save everyone. Can they do it? They’re definitely going to try.
Thanks for reading this episode review, everyone! I love Digimon! I’ll see you all next week in the Digital World.
