Tower of God Volume 2: The Prince of Zahard: “The Strongest Regular” (Episodes 6 through 8) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this webtoon review. Please read with caution.
On September 4, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God’s Volume 2: The Prince of Zahard’s second story arc: “The Strongest Regular”. Initially, I found investing in new characters kind-of difficult, but knowing Baam—going by Jue Viole Grace—was in the new group helped a lot. This arc was fascinating for introducing us to this new version of Baam, who likely went through a dark phase after Rachel’s betrayal. The subverting of audience’s expectations was strong in this arc.
SIU’s artwork had also become more consistent, but it wasn’t as high-depth as the Tower of God’s beginning arcs. The steel-eel dragon thing from Volume 1’s first arc was magnificently drawn, and I wish that quality was shown more often. I’m used to the Webtoon style character designs though, especially Ja Wangnan and his Chibi-drawn comedic moments. Wangnan’s character is growing on me rather quickly.
Baam’s new persona—Jue Viole Grace—though is a very heartless individual. The new test required Viole choose seven teammates from the current group of participants, but he chose not to have any teammates because he found them all too weak or unqualified to join forces with him, a sharp contrast from the Baam we knew and loved from Volume 1. What happened to the Baam who cared about his friends? What is Fug?
I had my doubts going into this second Volume since I initially believed Baam was going to be absent for a while—I have trust issues from The God of High School and their main protagonist Jin Mori—but knowing Viole was present helped renew my interest in climbing up the Tower. I’m excited to see what happens next with this unexpected twist in the test! Thanks for reading my Webtoon review, everyone! Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower.
