The Flash 6x05 "Kiss Kiss Breach Breach" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
Cisco-centric episode has arrived. While I enjoyed this episode as a filler in-between, I found that it broke the momentum of the previous four episodes, the strongest in the show’s history. However, this was an effective Cisco story that felt like a backdoor pilot.
Barry and Iris leaving randomly was… convenient. I think it was a weak excuse to make this episode happen, but whatever. Nash and Joe getting trapped during a cave-in was… been there done that before. Other shows have already played this out too many times, but it gave us a strong Joe West speech. We hadn’t gotten one of those in a long time. It boggled my mind how Nash and Joe’s cave-in was a spinning the wheels moment until the “I can save Barry Allen” cliffhanger.
Gypsy, an important character on The Flash and Cisco’s ex-girlfriend, was killed off-screen in this episode. I didn’t like the off-screen part, but the show found a way to make Gypsy’s death really moving through Cisco’s and Breacher’s reactions / moments. Carlos Valdes is amazing in this episode. While the episode was essentially spinning the wheels like I had said earlier, it was also effective for Cisco’s character as he wants to step-up in Barry’s spot as team leader after Crisis is over.
Caitlin returned in this episode to convince Ramsey to turn himself in, and Killer Frost felt responsible for Ramsey’s murder spree. It was a good scene / moment, but it didn’t feel at home in this episode. I might have found Cisco’s story way more interesting. In addition, I think Caitlin / Ramsey needed more time to breathe. There seems to a lot of history there but not enough time to explore it.
Overall, I had fun with this episode, and I’m sure the show will pick up on that cliffhanger in two weeks. Back to Crisis On Infinite Earths and Nash’s potential reveal as Pariah. Maybe he’ll shed some light on The Monitor and Anti-Monitor too.
