How To Get Away With Murder 6x02 "Vivian's Here" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
The second episode started with what we know best from How To Get Away With Murder: the classroom and the K4’s last semester before graduation. The idea of K4 graduating with so much blood on their hands is still crazy to me. Asher is also given Laurel’s seat in the special group because we don’t have time to meet anyone new like Gabriel. After, we see Asher and Connor given the immigration case.
Michaela is furious with Annalise about knowing her birth father without telling her, and didn’t show up to class as a result. She stayed at home with Oliver to research his current whereabouts but no luck. She is also getting hot and heavy with Gabriel at his apartment because why not?
Speaking of Gabriel, Vivian’s here and has a bone to pick with her son and Annalise Keating. They have a public argument on Sam, Gabriel, and how Sam was going to choose Vivian once he found out Gabriel existed. But, Vivian sent him away as she claimed to be not a pathetic woman like Annalise who stayed married to him.
Then, Vivian asks if Annalise killed Sam. In public. Vivian is not playing around.
Frank is the only character who hasn’t given up on Laurel and keeps looking for her. He uses the key he found in the season premiere to track down a safe deposit box that he can’t access. Only Laurel and Wes can… confirmed by Annalise to have all the dirt from previous seasons, including what really happened to Sam.
So naturally, Frank makes a fake ID saying he’s Wes, and of course, the employees believe him… but when he checks the safe deposit box, everything is gone. Laurel cleaned it out… what’s going on here?
Asher and Connor have to deal with the immigration case, which gets complicated because their client is an 8-year-old who can’t speak English. They recruit Tegan for assistance, but the case only gets more complicated with ICE being involved. It was admirable to see the show still address law cases like immigration in the courtroom when there’s more story to wrap up outside of it.
Annalise, in the meanwhile, deals with Vivian again over Sam, and they both have this understanding about being loved by a white man who acknowledged them when the rest of the world didn’t. Annalise urges Vivian to leave with Gabriel and to let go of the pain inside. Annalise also meets up with Michaela after she finds out her birth father’s dead, and they share a tender moment.
The flash-forward reveals Michaela in a graduation gown and in police hold-up. She has been taken-in because her fingerprints matched the murder weapon. After hearing this, Michaela asks for her lawyer. Chills… I’m excited to see how the final season will bow out.
