Supernatural 15x02 "Raising Hell" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
This is essentially a two-part season premiere. Supernatural picks up where we left off in last week’s episode, dealing with all the souls getting released out of Hell. Yes, Demon-Jack (I’m not bothering with his name) successfully put up the ghost barrier, but it’s only a short-term solution. This is why Rowena and Ketch return to help the Winchesters this week, bringing along so much sexual tension that it’s almost funny the ridiculous of the situation.
Kevin Tran also returned to the episode, where we learned Chuck lied—of course—about sending the boy to heaven. Instead, Chuck condemned him to Hell for literally no reason, and it makes me wonder if Chuck sent any other of their friends wrongfully down to Hell. This would make the perfect excuse for those returning guest stars like their half-brother Adam and arch-angel Michael.
I really hope that wasn’t the last time we saw Kevin Tran. That ending is not what he deserves… Kevin Tran deserved better since his late appearance in season seven and major roles during eight and nine.
Ryan Choi is jumping to the Arrowverse soon for Crisis On Infinite Earths, but I’m sure the actor can find the time afterwards to give a proper goodbye / closure for Kevin Tran. We cannot end him this way. It’s unacceptable.
I enjoyed the Chuck-Amara scenes a lot. We hadn’t seen Amara for about four years now, and her appearance reveals what we already suspected but didn’t have full confirmation of when it came to Chuck’s character. Amara is not interested in “hanging out” with Chuck in another universe, and learns about the wound linking him and Sam. Yeah, this will not not play a major role in the overall season.
Demon-Jack is an interesting addition to the group since the writers are putting off Jack’s major role with Death and The Empty. He’s essentially a demon Crowley hand-me-down, but Alexander Calvert plays the role so damn well… way different energy / vibe from how he played his actual character, Jack.
The final season is fun and heartbreaking at the same time… wonderful.
