My Hero Academia Season 3 Anime Review
Major Spoilers are included in this anime review. Please read with caution.
Season Three kicked up the action by a shit ton. My season one review of MHA is here and here is my season two review for those who want to read those as well.
My Hero Academia is easily one of my favorite anime and I’ve finally managed to finish out the season. There were like five episodes I didn’t watch after the filler episode… I don’t know why I didn’t finish them out. This season picks up a couple weeks after the last season. It covers the Forest Training Camp arc, Hideout Raid arc, and the Hero License Exam Arc.
These parts also heavily focused on Bakugo, Deku’s childhood friend and rival. He’s kidnapped by the villains at the end of the Forest Training Camp arc, gets saved in the Hideout Raid arc at the cost of All Might’s remaining power, and must deal with the consequences of his reckless actions during the Hero License Exam arc. Bakugo went through so much, not even Deku fully noticed the weight he was carrying. I wanted Deku to hug him after the end of their amazing fight scene.
The storytelling does not disappoint this season. There are still too many characters in this series, but all of them are distinct enough that the audience is at least familiar when side characters reappear randomly. I think All For One and the All Might fight scene was overwhelming… I had to keep going until he officially passed on the torch to Deku, making us cry alongside the poor lad.
Besides the character overflow in the story, there aren’t many issues with season three except the filler episode. This is a personal problem for me… I grew sick of filler episodes after years of watching the Naruto series and going through their thought-out filler arcs. It broke my flow when I tried to watch it because I knew it wasn’t that important, if at all, to the overall story… although they tried to make it fun, which it probably was. I ended up skipping it entirely.
I’m excited to watch season four, which is coming in October. Thanks for reading. You know what to do… PLUS ULTRA!
