The Originals 5x06 "What, Will, I, Have, Left" Episode Review
WARNING! Major Spoilers for this episode review! Read with Caution!
This episode promised Caroline and Klaus, but it delivered MISERY AND DEATH. But let's go into the happy stuff first like Klaroline!
Having Caroline included in the final season is so fitting if you followed Klaus during her TVD days when he was only known as the The Original Hybrid, who terrorized Mystic Falls. I shipped them so hard and to see the chemistry still present is such a treat. The way she comforts him about being a father and the talk they have about the old days.
Does she regret the time they spent together? That's the first question Klaus asks to distract himself on the Hope-Roman situation. Caroline indulges him and responds that she does not regret it at all. But she goes on about how they were different people back then and how she thinks she represented an innocence he lost.
Caroline also believes if they met as the people they are now, he wouldn't have noticed her. Klaus reassures her that she is very noticeable with his devilish smile. I hope they get together or have closure by the end of the series. She is slated to appear in the last episode of the series.
New Orleans drama: Freya and Vincent are in an argument about Declan. You know? Hayley's human boyfriend. He is worried sick about her and puts up missing persons flyers around the city. Freya wants to tell him the truth about the supernatural, but Vincent refuses.
Vincent struggles with this because Cami died knowing about the supernatural. He talks to Ivy, the super beautiful seer, and she helps him see that Declan has a right to know the truth. As he is about to tell him, he backs out last minute learning he is related to Cami. They are cousins!
Let's forget about that for a moment though and dive into the DEATH AND MISERY!
I'm curious how everyone is reacting to this. I saw an accidental tweet months ago that detailed Hayley's death, but for those who had no clue this was coming... How are you doing? Did it seem completely shocking? It did to me and I saw it coming... I can't unsee it.
If you think about it, this death was coming since the premiere. First, she disappeared after season five started, her name (Phoebe Tonkin) disappeared from the credits, and then she shows up to die? Yeah, clearly the actress had other things going on in her life.
This is also the halfway point of the final season, so having the death happen now will project the direction of the season into uncharted territory. Her death will have major ramifications on Klaus, Hope, and Elijah.
Klaus is a single parent now, Hope lost her mother, and Elijah simply watched her die.
Once he gets his memories back (hopefully), the guilt of her death and the fight he had with Klaus will probably destroy him or something along those lines. For now, it looks like Elijah is siding with Roman (poor kid... Hope is going to hate him) and the other purist vampires. Even with Greta gone, the noble Mikaelson is going to take over where she left off.
Hayley's death felt rushed because (again) we haven't seen her all that much and the episode ended on that horrible fiery note, so I'm hoping we get more of the sorrowful aftermath in the following episode.
Comment and share how you're feeling about the latest episode. I'm incredibly sad to see an original character die like that.
