The 100 5x05 "Shifting Sands" Review
Major Spoilers Below for the latest episode! WARNING!
Sorry for the late post on this episode review! Life got in the way the past week, but I'm back and ready to discuss what's been going on in The 100.
We got a lot more out of the Prison People in this episode, particularly Diyoza, Shaw, and McCreary.
Diyoza is not willing to negotiate with Octavia or plans to share The Valley (the only survivable piece of land on Earth). She got the most screentime and her interaction with Kane caught my attention. How far is Kane willing to go to save Abby and the rest of his people?
Shaw is struggling to deal with the morals of his actions, like the rest of the characters on this show, and is growing a connection to Raven. He saved her from getting tortured by McCreary and may be secretly working with her to save his own ass. It is unclear at the moment.
McCreary is revealed as one of the sick who needs Abby's treatment. He has plans to turn on Diyoza, I can sense it, and the way he looked at Abby made me uncomfortable. I think he is going to do whatever it takes to cure himself of whatever he has.
Abby is put into the doctor role this season. She has to save all these people to get access to the pills. The show has not explored this addiction yet, but it might be related to her issues in the fourth season with ALLIE. Kane is trying his best to get her to quit but knows something will happen if she goes into withdrawal.
Octavia has turned her back on love. She has suffered so much and has become an absolute monster. She is happy to be reunited with Bellamy but warned him not to get in her way, and she is pushing Indra's motherly love as well.
I wonder if there's no going back for Octavia at this point. Side note: it was crazy how the worm things almost killed her! Luckily for her, Clarke managed to get it out before it got into her stomach. The magic of plot armor. It didn't extend to a random Wonkru member. RIP.
Murphy managed to escape thanks to Shaw and Raven. He got the warning to the team hiding in the forest (Madi, Monty, Harper, Echo, and Emori), but he couldn't escape with them because shock collar. Murphy stays behind and so does Emori. Those two are meant to be!
Madi's scenes were short but funny. The way she talks about the other characters like she knows them. Clarke's stories were real and honest considering she thought the worst at the time. I loved that Madi said Octavia is her favorite. Their first meeting will be interesting.
But Clarke and Madi reunion was too sweet! I love how close they are. The Bellamy-Echo reunion was ehhhhh.... the whole kiss wasn't even seen. We got Clarke's reaction and even worse, Octavia's zoomed in. Blodreina is not pleased!
The leadership dynamics are always interesting on this show. Bellamy and Clarke are used to leading everyone or defying leadership. While Clark appears to be on Octavia's side for the time being, Bellamy is leaning towards questioning her every move. I hope she isn't too far gone... her character is an absolute favorite. According to Madi anyway.
I'm excited to see where this goes for the three of them.
The show is on break this week. So hopefully this week flies by. I'm ready for the next one!
