American Horror Story: Apocalypse 8x09 "Fire and Reign" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please Read with Caution.
There needs to be more episodes in the season because… I’m not satisfied. We’re all thinking this. With one episode left in this epic season, I conclude we need more episodes or another season to wrap up this arc. There’s too much ground to cover in the finale and that’s before we even get caught up with the current timeline.
Although I am putting the missing pieces together with the information given in this episode. Dinah, the Voodoo Queen, lowers the barrier protecting the Coven’s home so Michael and Robot Mead can enter. He promises her a talk show in exchange for her help.
Michael stops Zoe and Queenie’s magic, then Robot Mead slaughters them all with her robot gun hand. Queenie tries to do her reversal magic on Mead, but it doesn’t work on robots. Not only are the girls dead, but Michael also incinerated their souls like he did to the ghosts in Murder House.
All of them are killed except for Cordelia, Myrtle, Mallory, Coco, and Madison. Cordelia is outraged at the loss and slaps Madison for failing to inform them of Michael’s ability to kill even spirits. He also slaughtered the warlocks, so they’re of no help either.
Misty is off somewhere else with Stevie Nicks. Let’s get a spin-off on that.
Cordelia wants to die to ascend Mallory, but everyone is against the plan. Mallory is not strong enough yet to face Michael. She also has the power of time travel, so my head automatically went to, “She’s going to reverse the end of the world and save the Coven”. I figured this was the magical solution, but I hope it doesn’t happen in next week’s episode.
Michael is introduced to the Cooperative, or the Illuminati, by the two nerds with bad wigs who created Robot Mead. They are ready to end the world and wish for Michael to lead them as the Anti Christ, to form the Outposts and put Ms. Venable in charge like we saw in the season premiere. I wish we had more time with the nerds, but alas, we’re at the end of the road.
I thought this episode was fine with setting up the pieces, but I don’t want it all rushed in the season finale. It’s going to be a fun train wreck if they try to wrap everything up, especially if the show plans to add unexpected twists or turns.
