DC's Legends of Tomorrow 4x03 "Dancing Queen" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with Caution.
It’s all fun and games until the team tries to send the shape-shifter to Hell. I was thinking this was all mindless fun until we got to the Ray and Charlie of it all. Ray was my least favorite character since the early Arrow days, but he’s been slowly growing on me as Legends progressed from season one to now. His time with the punks gives us excellent insight into his character and how he’s been dealing with his guilt over letting Nora Darhk go from the Time Bureau.
I did find Ray’s fight scene against the Legends thrilling until it was revealed that Charlie was masquerading as him and wearing the Atom Suit. Even with that reveal, it was a good way to bring conflict among the team. We hadn’t got real conflict among the teammates in a while.
John Constantine is trying to adjust to being a team player. He picks an active fight with Mick Rory about everything, please bring us more of this, and decides to go to a bar alone. Zari follows him and continues being the MVP of the Legends. She is seriously on fire with how she’s interacting with everyone! She and Ray are cute, and the dynamic she establishes with Constantine is one of kindred souls.
The time paradox of ball-kicking was simply explained and nicely handled. I got a hoot out of watching Constantine try anyway to break his father’s balls. We learned in this episode that his mother died of childbirth and his father blamed him for killing her. What a rough way to grow up. We got another hint of the threat coming for Constantine and the ramifications it’ll bring to the entire team once it catches up with him.
Nate is working at the Time Bureau. He wants time away from the Waverider to fully get over Amaya. He becomes time bros with Gary, and the two of them accidentally brought back a deadly plant that destroyed the entire office. You know. A typical Taco Monday. We also are introduced to a new character named Mona, the delivery girl. I have a feeling we’ll be getting more of her in the future.
Charlie is not sent back to Hell but is now stuck in Amaya’s form because of Constantine’s complicated magic system. It’s also a great and convenient way to keep an amazing cast member without dragging out her character. Amaya’s story is over on Legends for the time being, but it doesn’t mean we’re through with her actress!
Legends of Tomorrow has found a way to bring on the fun and deliver the important messages without overdoing it. It might be too early to state this, but this show is still #1 out of all the Arrowverse shows. I feel confident in that assessment based on how all the other shows are going so far.
