Arrow 8x03 "Leap Of Faith" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
Arrow ended on a massive cliffhanger that will likely change the unnatural course of the final season, and the overall Crisis On Infinite Earths event. However, before we talk more about it, we must discuss what actually went down in this episode. Thea Queen, Talia Al Ghul, and Athena from the Thanatos Guild returned in this episode to pay tribute to the League of Assassins, which is essentially a dedication to the present day season three. It also resolved Thea and Talia’s stories on the show, giving them closure on their demons and fathers Ra’s Al Ghuls.
I loved that Oliver’s overprotected nature of his sister Thea returned but in a realistic manner. His inevitable death and what happened on Earth-2, a world where she was already dead, were the main causes of his distress. However, Oliver told her relatively quickly compared to his deceitfulness in the past (being Green Arrow, and keeping a secret about her parentage). Revisiting their dynamic that made Arrow so watchable really brought back the feels. Stephen Amell nailed that goodbye scene so well and I hope Thea isn’t done on the show yet.
Thea’s decision to create the League of Heroes with Talia seems like a Justice League with assassin-level abilities. It sounds like a wonky spin-off idea to be honest, but that kind of show would need Sara and Nyssa to make it fully work. Why am I talking about this? The Arrowverse is clearly not going to do this idea. Right?
Speaking of Nyssa, I’m surprised she didn’t get to show up in this episode. Her absence alone makes me think they missed some sort of opportunity here.
Lyla and Diggle also had a side-mission that brought them back to a season two callback about Ben Turner and the Suicide Squad. Watching Lyla and Diggle interact is tense since we know she’s lying to John about The Monitor and her role on Crisis On Infinite Earths.
The flash forwards and the present shared a theme of making choices using strength and not out of a fear like dying in the upcoming Crisis. This is what Oliver and Mia have to deal with it when it comes to protecting their siblings. Also, JJ Deathstroke killing Zoe was not okay. Seeing Mia get crushed watching her friend get stabbed was not okay. Connor’s raw anger and almost brother murder was not okay. Luckily, the LOST light flash appeared to whisk them all to Present Day 2019.
This was an amazing WTF ending. Mia, William, and Connor have been transported in the present day bunker meeting Oliver Queen and the original team. Mia and William reuniting with their father is going to hurt so bad next week.
