The Flash 5x06 "The Icicle Cometh" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
While I enjoy that the show finally got back to the Killer Frost of it all, there was a problem with her origin story and the discovery of Caitlin’s father. It just wasn’t interesting enough and their approach to how Killer Frost came to exist was muddled. I feel like they could’ve stuck with the particle accelerator explosion and explore Caitlin Snow’s struggles rather than waste time on this unneeded explanation.
Thomas Snow and his alter ego, Icicle, need more attention. I think he would’ve worked as a main villain with Caitlin at the forefront, but this season is Cicada-centric so he’ll be in the background for the time being. Caitlin and Killer Frost should’ve stayed on the path they initially were on… the whole “best friends with your split personality” isn’t working.
Cecile and Ralph got paired up for the episode. Joe is off somewhere with the baby because of the actor’s medical leave, so these two characters got stuck with each other. It sort of works, their dynamic is fun, and how Cecile intimidates Ralph on the couch is life itself. However, I think they could’ve done more with an amazing character like Cecile. The season is still early, so I’ll give them a pass.
Iris-Nora-Wells scenes were pretty great. I have nothing much to say on that front except that I love Iris and Nora. They are finally getting along and I’m here for it. Sherloque Wells is the perfect third wheel to the mother-daughter investigation.
This episode had a lot of problems, mainly around Killer Frost/Icicle, but The Flash was bound to trip on itself at some point this season. Every other episode was pretty fantastic, and I half expected the show to disappoint me with the Killer Frost reveal. Overall, excused mess.
